Hey Everyone, I've scrounged through many different vise threads on here, including 160 of the 200+ MONSTER thread of everyone showing off their vises. I've learned an enormous amount of information already....

I've created myself an electrolysis tank. Started it at first with Rebar anodes and swapped when I found some cheap Graphite ones. I don't agree its cleaner, I used to be able to see through the water using the rebar, the graphite turns the water black.

I've put a few vises through, manged to help a few friends out with restoring old ones they had that they thought they should trash! They all turned out great!

I have a large one I'm working on, pics can be seen here http://garagejournal.com/forum/picture.php?albumid=2330&pictureid=23961

1. The handle does not separate, which leaves me to wonder how can I clean it up? I really like the look of the vises when their handles are nice bright and shiny silver/chrome/polished metal. Are you guys painting the handles? I thought I had read that the paint would wear off....so does anyone have advice? I have a few smaller ones to clean up as well, and those have swivel bases with knobs/handles that also will need it.

2. I have the same question about the jaws. I like the pop of the seeing the metal jaws more than seeing the edges colored the same as the jaws.

3. I have one with a swivel base whose bolt which guides in the track has seen too much torque, the square of it has given out. I tried a 3/8 inch carriage bolt (I'd have to grind the top flat, but no big deal), while the threads are correct, the square portion leaves a lot of slop which I believe is what causes the rounding issue. Anyone have any ideas?

4. For the detail work, say contrasting the markings on the vise, how are people best doing that? I bought the rustoleum spray cans for the main color, but I don't think masking words off would work too well! Are people just using toy/model enamel paints with small brushes?

Thanks for the help everyone!
