Got this vise at an auction last week along with some other miscelaney.
Overall height is about 6", jaws are 1 3/4" wide x appx 3/8" deep. The front jaw is smooth and the back jaw has both a horizontal and a vertical "V" groove. The jaws open up a little more than 2".
On the front "KIT VISE" is cast into the metal in raised letters.
Above that is says "PAT 142546" and below is:
"G. *******"
"TOOL & DIE"
"K.C. MO"
The letters above and below appear to have been stamped into the castings. The lines are not very straight.
On the back jaw are two notched tabs that appear to be used to screw it down to something.
Does anyone know if this was designed and sold for a specific purpose?
Thanks!

Todd

Thanks, You are the man!!

I only found a listing (I think) from the U.S. Patent office, but none of the text/drawings would show up. I just figured that the patent was too old to be in the current images.

You're welcome:)

What probably threw you off is finding the really old Patent 142546 instead of D142546.

Also I search http://www.google.com/patents first and if that doesn't get a hit I'll try www.freepatentsonline.com. The gov't site ain't the best.
