Vise with quick release

I had posted an earlier thread about trying to make up my mind about buying an 8" sturdy vise. Today my dilemma increased when I found a knock-off of old Record Vise No.24 with a quick release mechanism. The original was made in England, but this is by an Indian manufacturer (Apex). It has 6" wide jaws opening to 9" (same as the two 8" vises I had posted about), costs nearly the same as the other two, but weighs only 70 lb (against 96 lb for the 8" ones without quick release). I really like this vise

My query: is the benefit of quick release more than the smaller size of this vise, and should I go for it? :dunno:

Thank you in advance for your replies.

I would. 6" jaws will do damn near everything in most shops. I have old Cardinal vices that are quick release. They are awesome. I don't know the quality of the vice you stated but as long as you don't use it as a press it should be just fine

Thanks for the advice! The quick release seems a clincher to me and I am going for this one. I don't pound on my vises or use them as press, so this should be Ok. The only thing about this vise could be the weak lower front jaw due to the quick release screw.

Thanks. The only vises (we call them "vices" here) in India are either the locally made ones, or the cheap Chinese imports. There are some established vise makers (such as Apex, Aerte, and Nicon) who have been in the business for more than 50 years. The other local ones are new and unreliable in terms of quality.
