I had this 6" Hollands # 26 I sold to a guy down in New Orleans for $300. Two boxes each over 90 lbs. Right before Katrina. Who knows, maybe its a boat anchor now.

Banjo, did you further persue that No. 18 Hollands? I think that one might have had 8" jaws. I've got a Hollands No 16 on Feebay right now thats a 6" and my buddy had a Hollands 14 that is a 4". I'm not sure about its weight estimate however the 14 is 46 lbs and the 18 is 148 lbs. That 8' had got to be 100 lbs more.

Well, it was Mitch that was pursuing it, not me unfortunately. As for the size of the jaws, what you said does make sense. I wish we had a picture of the 18.

I have the opportunity to buy an enormous Holland 18. 10" jaws and supposedly in good shape. The guy wants $400-$500 for the thing.

Is it worth it (seems high??)? Anyone have any info on this model?

Hello did you ever buy that large holland vise. Id be interested in purchasing it

I got this before it was sold for scrap. I have no idea what to mount it on as it weighs a ton. Very little info out there.

mjozefow, I think 300 lbs may be a pretty conservative estimate. The Prentiss I mentioned earlier only had 8 1/2" jaws and it wasn't built nearly as heavy duty as Behemoth; it was just a lot bigger. In any case, I'm really expecting it to be closer to 500 lbs than 300 lbs. I :D

Here's an easy sanity check: Weight goes up with the cube of the scale factor. So, how much does a really heavy duty 5" vise weigh? Multiply by 2 cubed (8) to get the weight of an identically shaped 10" vise. The numbers get big in a BIG hurry.

For an example, my 3 1/2" Reed 32 weighs 87 lbs. If you scaled it up to 10", that would be triple the size, and therefore 27 times the weight , or 2400 lbs!!

(that was off the top of my head. Just for laughs I fired up the calculator and got 2029.1415 lbs. Close enough for forklifts)
