Vises without removable jaws?

How often to you guys come across vises that have the jaws and the body as a single piece?

Was looking through the GJ vise thread and I didn’t see any like that, other than some broken ones.

Have a lil old Columbian red arrow and I thought it was unusual.
Ignore the ghetto soft jaws I made for it lol



And as a bonus, my workhorse vise I got for helping empty out a leaning barn, bob

Early Reed viees had cast-in jaws, but they were hard jaws implanted into the casting. Some low cost clamp on vises had machined in jaws

In have an old Reed 214 that doesn't have removable jaws.

Seldom are they a single piece, they are just more difficult to remove and replace. For the very occasional user they are ok, but can be a royal pain.

Then there are some vises that have no jaw faces at all. Typically the lower end units.

In the first half of the century it was standard for all vises to have attached jaws. They were installed in the casting process. This was for all vises, including high dollar machinist vises and large vises.

My Ridgid, bought new a couple of years back, has forged in jaws. I suppose they could break but there’s a sticker on the vise saying if it ever were to happen, to return them to Ridge Tool Company, Germany for a replacement. I’ve had nothing but good experiences with it so far.

A walker Turner bench vise?

Yeah it’s a small 2” jaw that clamps to a table or bench. Here’s a pic of one.

And then there are some, Parker for example, which have jaws theoretically removable. However, in practice, they're nearly impossible to remove and should one successfully remove them, there are no replacements available.
