As far as quality goes they are top notch tools and yes you do get the **** award today! If you take the time you can read more about them in the AA web-site, the man that started the company was a blacksmith from Czechoslovakia that got his start in America.

That's a very cool set!

It's from after the Pendleton acquisition and almost certainly dates from the 1960s...

Thanks guys, I found this on AA.
W3236 Open-End Wrench

The Vlchek W-series wrenches remained in production for many years, well after the acquisition by Proto. This next figure shows an example believed to represent the later production.

Fig. 176. Vlchek W3236 1x1-1/8 Open-End Wrench.
Fig. 176 shows a much later Vlchek W3236 1x1-1/8 open-end wrench, stamped "Alloy U.S.A." on the shank.

The overall length is 12.1 inches, and the finish is a full chrome plating with polished ends.

This wrench has a flatter and thicker shank than the earlier Vlchek models, and in some ways resembles the Proto open-end wrenches.

Getting sets of older wrenches like that is RARE. Usually you have to get them one or two at a time here and there, and maybe you never get a full set (I spend a couple of YEARS working on my Proto sets of combos piece by piece, and I only have one FULL set, the second set is missing the 1/4, 3/8, 7/8, and 15/16ths to be complete to 1-1/16. (three more if I want it to go to 1-1/4 like the first complete 18 pc set...)

But I have six 9/16ths! :willy_nil (and a bunch of other dupes.)

Nice score! and yes, you DO ****!

How do those vintage wrenches compare to SO FD+?

Quality-wise right with them, finish, not so much (No polishing and bright chrome). fit to the nut, well, but without the FD feature, so... :dunno:

But the dependability is right there...

And what is ya'll's opinion as far as value goes. What would you personally pay. I have no desire to sell it, it's just fun to tell someone "and this tool is worth..." :)

I see the wrenches at yard sales and estate sales quite often for $ 1.00 or less. Most flks have never heard of them.Vlchek himself wrote an autobiography of his life.A good read if you can find it.

They are good wrenches. They used to be made a few miles from my house, They started in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. Very hard to find complete sets, even this close to the production site!

They are not worth much, but I ALWAYS take them when I come across them at garage/estate sales. In my area SoCal, I don't see them too often.

There is probably only scattered interest across the country, most of it right here at GJ.

Bless ebay for being able to check value instantaneously for any oddball item you could ever come across.

First check active listings. You'll see if anything is attracting bids. Asking prices are just that. For reality just check Completed Listings under Advanced Search.
