it all depends on the associate and their judgement, honestly. I really can't think of (when I worked there) a time when I legit turned down a warranty... I mean, I had people come in with 20+ year old bench vises trying to claim them, but someone with a legit failure on a legit "forever" item... only one I can think of is the guy who ground down the side of the socket to attempt to make it a thin wall, and ground through it... and the guy who bent his screw driver to make it right angle, then broke it bending it back.
