Non-binding referendum...Snap on dealer has what seems to be a screamin' deal on a KRL1023 in royal blue. My KRL722 trade in, plus $4025. He doesn't want my KR550, I'll give it to my son. I have to finance through Snap On Credit, but I can pay it off in 89 days with no interest. 19%...ouch. Yes or no?:willy_nil

I say no. I don't believe in financing tools, especially tool boxes, and even more especially if it's for personal use. The no interest is nice, but making payments always *****. Plus those payments would be what? Like 1300 for 3 months to not pay interest?

I don't believe in financing tools either, especially not tool boxes. That box doesn't make you any money. Absolutely not IMO

I can pay cash, but have to finance to get the discount. If I pay before 90 days it doesn't cost anything. So not really financing, just fooling SO credit.

I just went back and reread your post...you've already made up your mind, you're just seeking affirmation that spending 4k on a tool box is a good idea. The "screaming deal" is a dead giveaway. Sorry spending 4k on a tool box is just plain dumb in my opinion, no interest financing or not. :lol_hitti

Here is my perspective........you are only gaining a narrow bank of small drawers, which I did not find very useful at all when I got my MAC triple bank. I think you could do a ton more useful things with just half of that kind of additional money in the way of a SO or MAC cart, a side box or hutch etc.

I don't see that as a good value overall.

For home use? No that's over kill.......

At 19% your dealer is shafting you and isn't worth buying from?my cart was at 9% and my box form Mac was also at 9%. A few other guys in the shop also have gotten credit at 9%.

So.....no

If he's going to take your old box away, then he needs to pony up a better discount. Right now he's just dangling the bait to see if he can hook a fish. Don't be that fish. With patience, you should be able to find a better deal AND keep or sell your old box.

I agree with you. If you have the cash then go on craigslist or ebay and just out right buy it. I see the three bays sell for $4-$5,00 and the two bays for $1500-$3000. So since you've got the cash the why don't you save and buy a really nice used box. Just my tought.

"screaming deal…" LOL. Why do I have the sinking feeling that you regularly fall prey to the onslaughts of car dealers?

If you already have cash, the world of used tool boxes is yours. I have seen big SO boxes on CL here for over a year. My hunch is that laying Benjamin's on most boxes will get you a very fair deal. It may take a little longer to find the exact box you want but I think you could easily come out ahead dollar wise.

Essentially $6500? That's a screaming deal? I'd call it an OK deal at best... if you needed the free 90 days of financing. You could buy with cash for about that price and get a like-new "used" box for about what you'd be financing, and sell your green box for probably $2500. If you were closer, I'd offer to buy it. Hell, you're not that far away, I'd consider it for the right price!

Disclaimer: I place very little value on buying such expensive, quickly depreciating assets as vehicles or toolboxes new. I also like green toolboxes.

Why not just buy a side cabinet and pocket half the cash? That's all that box really adds over your current one. Or, as others have said, go the used route. Doesn't look like a great deal to me at all!

Edit: I looked up the depth and found you'd be gaining some there as well.

My thoughts exactly. If you have the cash, look for a nice clean used one.
I just bought a KRL1023 WITH stainless top and hutch for under 4000.00.

It is used but looks like new. If you are not in a hurry, WAIT for a deal. Trust me, if you give it a little time, you can find one on CL.

If you spend 5000.00 on a box, you can then sell yours for 2000.00 or so and then you will only be out of pocket 2500.00 to 3000.00 for the same thing or maybe better.

Tough crowd, but the "NO's" have it. Credit app just went in the shredder. I'd really like to find all these $4000 KRL1023's everyone talks about.
And just to be clear, I had ZERO intention of using SO credit. They are a step below loan sharks. I would have used them to get the discount, then paid it off before the interest kicked in. It was 90 days same as cash.

just be patient on cl, keep 3500 on hand so when they oppurtunity presents itself you can show up with cash in hand. just because a seller is asking 5k does mean that is his bottom esp. when you have cash there.

Here you go for only $3500 and you could still maybe talk him down. http://panamacity.craigslist.org/tls/4274785137.html

I think you made a WISE decision.

I get the 90 days same as cash I've done it before myself but that doesn't matter if your not getting a good deal to start with.

Keep an eye on CL, the nice big boxes are there but you have to be patient. Have the cash ready and make the seller an offer. All they can do is say NO and you go down the road. The BEST time to buy ANYTHING is when you are not in need of it. You get to make your own terms that way.

I have two of the triple bank KRL series boxes. I drove 200 miles to get the first one the other one I bought locally.

One has a top box and side cabinet the other one I mentioned I just bought has a Stainless top and hutch. Both are in GREAT shape and I have under 9,000.00 in BOTH of them.

Be patient "Daniel-son"

I know the new box might look better and be a little more convenient, but i'd have to agree that you should put the money into your family's food bill since you have a hungry teenager or maybe surprise him with a new car project. now if the new box will gain you an hour or more a day in more work accomplished it might pay for itself and then make the investment.

good luck in any direction you choose and by the way some of us would give a testicle to have the boxes you already own.

Pretty sure it was Chicago that I saw a 1023 go for like $2500 on ebay. Dude had done a really bad job of listing it, no model number and such.

You see any from that place in DE you like, I'd be willing to bring it to you and buy your 722, and split the trip costs. :D

That's a car. What kind of car are your driving?

Sounds offensive right? Not really. Would you rather have a fancy box or a decent used car?

That's a no here.

Another vote for NO as I think you made right decision to keep looking.

Really no "need" to throw down $4K on toolbox new when you can get virtually new in the $2K to $3K range used on CL, for truck brands. Watch CL like a hawk as there WILL be guys in over their head and needing to sell toolbox once all their Christmas bills hit.

Also, don't rule out larger radius of your location to go snag a deal. With help from other GJ facilitators, you might have more options.

Heck, you could MAKE money by taking roadtrip out to Portland, Oregon with a bigass flatbed trailer to pick up 38 Vidmar toolboxes !!! Throw down $6,500 and keep what you want, and sell rest at profit to fellow GJers or on Ebay. :rocker:

Of course I don't "need" this box, no one does. I'm guessing many of you have things you don't "need", maybe a motorcycle or four wheeler. I just want one. Is it worth the list price of $11,005? I bought the KRL722 for $2000. I looked at it as $6000 for what I wanted, and wouldn't have to mess around dealing with CL to buy a box, and sell my old one. My whole life is buying only what I need, so I don't own a pickup to move a box, I drive a Chevy Cruze. So then I need to put the arm on someone with a pickup, or rent a truck. The only things I spend money on are Snap On tools that I use for my living, camera equipment for my hobby, or work boots. My kids are all grown and done with college. My weekly grocery bill is usually under $40, I've had gas bills of $10. So as I said, I put the kibosh on that box, I don't want all of you to think I'm an idiot who's a soft touch for the tool truck guys.

now that we have all the facts which were missing from the beginning poll. I vote to buy the new huge box you like because you only live once and maybe see if he'll throw in a nice tool into the deal.:thumbup::thumbup:

be careful though if you buy it and start to smile too much you might have to change your member name.
