Hi guys,

I am not having any luck by a "search" and Google isn't bringing me where I want to be, either...

So, I have a chance to buy a used 2-post 7000 lb lift that was made by Vulcan Equipment Co of Canada. It is a model 83, serial number 124.

Are parts (cables, sheaves, etc.) readily available for these?

Are there any Vulcan dealers out there? (The number for the local dealer (sticker on the side of it) has been disconnected.)

I still need to ensure that the mounting bracket bolts won't cause a problem with my radiant floor head plumbing, but in the meantime, it seemed like a good idea to ask about this.

Thanks in advance for your input.

I have a Vulcan tire machine good quality 30 years old never any problems. I am pretty sure they went bankrupt many years ago. I had a couple of their tow rigs, good quality also.
Thanx Trevor

Thanks for the replies, gents.

The lift I am considering could be 30 years old (certainly 20) considering the area code on the phone number predates the current area code for the town the dealer was in.

I will contact them (the Canadians) on Monday and see what's what.

If I don't go for this lift for myself, should I post its availability here?

Don't let the age deter you from buying. If the price is right you can repair/replace anything. My Weaver is probably 25+ years old and has been trouble free for me for over 8 years.

Try the classifieds if you want to post the info on where it can be bought. BTW... lifts show up on CL pretty often... a guy in Madison recently had two for sale.

Re vulcan automotive thats a different co. maybe the same people but Vulcan equipment Ltd. I am sure went bankrupt. 905 564 1155 is a current phone for vulcan automotive. Vulcan equipment Ltd. invented and built the"Cradle Snatcher" tow truck which I believe was the first wheel lift style tow truck. Engine-Ear let me know if I could help as I have to go by that location next week.
Thanx Trevor

Mycho...post some pics of it, when you get a chance. I would be interested in seeing what it looks like. If it's a re-branded lift (ie. manufactured by one company, but sold by Vulcan) there's a decent chance you can still get parts for it. I've been in the lift business for 18 years and I never heard of it though...

It is not installed yet but here's some pics
Please let me know if it looks like any other brand out there.

You won't see it clearly on the pics but the post are not bolted to the floor but to a floor «brace» (I don't know how to call it).

The brace is the part to be bolted to the floor. Cables are routed within this brace.

Thread update: lifts ordered...

In keeping with refreshing old threads that I started, this past September I ordered three, 4-post 'storage' lifts and an asymmetrical 2-post from Rotary.

I struggled with what I could afford vs. customer support vs. 'what my gut says'.

The 4-post lifts are rated for 8000 lb and will see minimal up and down cycles (long-term projects up in the air). The Rotary 2-post is the "Revolution" model.

Recalling the details of my Wreck Room (affectionate name I apply to my detached garage) (http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=32780) , I have 11' clearance under the parts loft (aka mezzanine, aka MATT-zanine LOL) and the 4-post lifts will live there.

So, in anticipation for their arrival in a couple of weeks, I have finally been getting around to insulating the walls and putting plywood up over the R19 batts (sp?). I am also having 200A electrical service run to the Wreck Room.

Quick update on the Wreck Room... Lifts are bring delivered Monday after lunch, which will be about 4 hours after an expected 4" snow is supposed to conclude.

Spent 7 hours in the as yet unheated Wreck Room today shoving a couple of Wrecks outside (and tarping them up so a couple of neighbors don't whine) ... It was +1* F when I started this morning and it got up to a lovely 14* F by 3:15. At least the sun was shining and the wind was minimal...

Now if only the snowstorm would MISS us... We shall see.

Interesting lift, make sure the cables are in good shape since it only has one lift cylinder.
