I think the 2012 model has that exhaust oil **** that you have to keep filled.. don't recall the exact name for it but it's pretty annoying, something to keep in mind if it's a diesel

Your thinking of ad-blue, which needs to be topped up for the car to start. Used to be expensive and had to be bought from dealerships but now even supermarkets sell 5L containers of it here. Best to carry some pare in the back since if it runs out while driving the car wont allow you to star the engine until its topped up, people have paid to have their cars towed to a garage for this, don't be one of them......
The VW 1.6 lump is quite reliable and we don't get many in with any major issues often, biggest thing is to keep on top of the servicing, i would definitely recommend the fixed service set-up (Fixed to oil change at max 9000 and oil + filter etcc every 18000 max) Alot of these engines are used about town for shopping etc.. and don't see the motorway millage the longlife service pack was designed for. The EGR can be a bit fragile which is a pain since its at the back of the engine on the newer models but not too much of a problem really and actually quite rare if the car is well maintained and given a good run now and then.
Depending on mileage check when the toothed belt was last changed (if ever) We've had a few cars in where its mentioned a belt change but the con men who done it only changed the serpentine belt and tensioner. The dealer will recommend changing the water pump along with the timing belt and this definitely should be done as it helps to correctly tension the belt, its also easy to get to since the belt and pump are a bumper off job. Audi spec a change at 133,000 miles, but i would recommend getting it done a bit sooner since some of the belts we take off at that millage are in a bit of a state and i wouldn't trust them. Probably best changed at around 100,000
DPF will need a good motorway run at least once a week.
Overall nice cars if you get one with a few toys on it.
