Plastic drain plugs are the stuff that give me nightmares. I have seen one go very wrong on a Ford at the shop next to ours. That drain plug is just begging to be stripped by an under-trained lube tech at one of those quick-change places...

Ecoboost (2.7L IIRC) has that nonsense. I cringe changing the oil, it's such a bad idea.

What is especially worrying, is when the locking arms start cracking. I fill those work orders and estimates with CYA notes.

I can understand why some tools come with 4 new plugs.
Can they be replaced with a metal plug?

Flat screwdriver works fine. They are not tight. Seal is with an o-ring.

My '17 VW GTI has one.

That's the one I saw... there was a lot of yelling and swearing that followed and the words "quarter turn" repeated...

And I even told the tech doing the service that it was a quarter turn plastic plug and his ******* still f'in broke it.

Firing him is looking better every day.
