Vynil planking on stairs?

For my kitchen remodel I'm using Lifeproof vynil planking. It'll also be the new flooring in the dining room, main long hallway. But I also have a set of stairs from the ground level to the 2nd level of my trilevel home. Anyone used vynil floor planking on stair treads? Glue it down? What to use for a tread nose? Or just buy stair specific vynil treads?

We did our "guest apartment" in vinyl, including the stairs. I think it turned out pretty good. I believe it was glued down.
I can tell that it's vinyl by walking on it, makes a different sound than true hardwood. But I doubt other people even notice:

You can do it not sure that I'd recommend it. Company that makes your flooring may sell matching nosing that locks into their flooring. You can also buy generic nosing that may or may not match your flooring. Nosing comes in a wide variety of profiles and installation types. They come in vinyl or aluminum. Some just sit on top of flooring others the flooring sits between the nosing. May need to miter nosing if sides of treads are exposed to room. They also sell complete treads either in vinyl or wood. Lots of options. Usually glued down with construction adhesive.

Thanks. Other issue is the Lifeproof vinyl planking is only 7-1/8" wide, and the stair tread are 9" wide, so that rules out using the Lifeproof product unless they have a step specific product. Gotta shop around.

Apparently these are Lifeproof treads and noses no idea if they will match or if they're any good just a Google search.

I think you'll have a similar problem with all the vinyl products. You'll have to cut it. I'd want it to match the product exactly.

It looks like Lifeproof is built for stairs where the tread overhangs the riser just a bit. But their "nose kits" come in 1-1/8th and 1-1/2".

Looks like a nose piece and a "supplemental plank" to make the tread width. So no different then normal LVP width

Just throwing it out there if there is a product that matches OP's floor. If not, presumably the kit will include plank that matches the nose. Also not sure if the noses interlock with the standard LVP flooring or not. Haven't used these before.

Was more commenting to OP that all the stairs look narrower then his tread and come with a filler piece. I assume it uses their clic lok style.

For my application I think I can get a close enough match, or do a different color. But at $70 per tread, plus glue and some planks for my landing, not sure I want to throw $1k at the stairs to my basement

I did three flights of stairs with the same LVP as the rest of the house with a glued-on nosing nine years ago. The integral tread/nose wasn't yet available, and it seems to hold up so far (as long as no one slides a tote down the stairs).

Did you thermoform or just glue a strip on the nose?

I used vinyl specific glue and a couple tacks in the nose. We were going to add a carpet runner for old dog traction but never got around to it cuz it looks good without having to hide most of it.
I built the stairs without nosing as I intended to do the stairs with this LVP.

Pic?

I could get some clearance LVP cheap...

The kits have come with insert planks that fit behind the tread. They appear to be about 2 inches. You should check.

Quoted to reiterate all these points. Having done vinyl on stairs one additional point is to make sure the stairs are ROCK SOLID with no deflection, as you will definitely feel it through the vinyl.

Definitely. My niece's husband installed some vinyl planking in their older home basement remodel the walking over it all I felt was a bunch of flexing. I know most vinyl planking is set down without any adhesize. But if I use the Lifeproof product on the stair treads I am bonding it down for sure. The carpeting on the stairs now hides any flexing, so when I take the carpet off I'll make certain there is no flexing on the treads before the flooring goes on.
Thanks everyone for your input and details.
