I was expecting it Wed/Thurs, but got a call from the wife, citing that the lift was here, but the truck had no way to get it off (no liftgate). I called up the shipper and they said it would be $130 to bring it back with a liftgate. Thought that was high!
The driver seemed cool, sending me pictures of how it sat in the truck and even looked at my engine hoist to see if that would work (while I was sitting in my office, 20 minutes away). He left his personal number and told him to call him if I could work something out.
I called him with the initial plan of just dismantling the lift in the truck and taking it out piece by piece. So he said he would swing by back in 45 minutes. I rushed home, checked out my hoist and thought just maybe!
Well he spent a good amount of time, brake and tire tread, moving the tractor so it was part way in my driveway (allowed the cherry picker direct access without having to worry about curbs or driveway dips). Then my chain was not long enough to go around the lift, so we decided to tie off one side into the truck, maneuver the other side with the cherry picker and swing it out. This worked (he had never done this before and well neither had I but it made sense). I was able to then hookup to the whole thing and the driver helped me up my driveway and into the garage with the cherry picker and lift. w00t!!
I gave him a nice holiday tip and thanked him, he then thanked me as he didn't want that thing in the truck with all the rain we were having.
So moral of this, is that there are still great people in the service industry!!!
So will unpack probably today, and maybe install Friday, but off to Vegas on Saturday for a week sOOO
I GOT MY LIFT!!!!!!
