Looking for pros/cons to doing a wainscot on the outside of a pole barn.

The only pro I can think of is appearance or curb appeal.
Are there any cons to be aware of such as leaks at the seam?

It just makes it look less like a shipping container. If its done right with the correct flash it wont leak.Do not use "j" channel. Do the bottom first,do the "s" channel thing, then the top.

Agreed ^

Mine looks like a box car, wainscotting would have been nice.

My question is how do you pronounce wainscotting?

I have always said Wains-Coat-ing. But lately I am hearing lots of people say Wains-Cot-ing. I think the latter sounds funny/wrong to my ears. It might be the way it is meant to be pronounced but I don't like it!

The reason most metal building builders suggest to add wainscotting is so if a piece of metal in the bottom few feet get damaged...you only have replace that small portion and not a piece that runs from top to bottom. This might include backing into it, thrown rocks from a mower, and much more.
