305 million people in the United States, and you've decided you're one of the "few people that gets it."

LMAO. That's just classic on so many levels.

Thats must be because he is one of the 10% that can afford to get it.

The piece feels nice and heavy, the ratcheting mechanism feels just about the same as the GearWrench brand (I also have a set of those) but I havent had a 30 or 22mm bolt/nut to try it out on. I can say that the ones that are made in Taiwan like this one are better quality that the ones that are made in China, not sure why that is but I went threw and looked and felt the difference's between the two.

I need to get over to a HF and lay my hands on some of the PP polished wrenches, then.

Is that Donnie Darko in your avatar? Creepy, whatever it is.:shocking:

I used to only buy cman tools because that was what I was raised with,my old man and his alike only would buy U.S.A. so that is all I have known. I have just been trying out other brands to see how well they perform and I have to say that some of these overseas companies are not doing a bad job in there QC dept. They ratchet well and look nice but this is my first for a polished piece, I just bought it because it was cheep. I never wanted to shell out the extra cash just so it would blind me when working under a car on a sunny day, seems kinda pointless. I have never had a SO but I just recently found one in my fathers old tool box, it says SO SV-71 on it, it was all rusted up and I took it apart and cleaned/greased it and it does what all my other ratchets do (foreign and domestic).....it ratchets.

i mean ive used the same HF grinder for 5 years...its been left outside for atleast 2 and abused its whole life and i have a nice makita(yeah i know not usa) and its a piece of junk

all my tools are dirty and abused...i dont buy em to worship em..i buy em to use em

The following statement is true 99.9% of the time.

If HF sells it, and it is made in Taiwan, it is amost always a fine tool for the money. I have had NO Taiwan sourced tools from HF that were junk, very good actually.

The above posted ratcheting wrench Pittsburgh Pro, just as good as any, but all wrenches like that from the other companies are Taiwan also.

Look man ... you don't have to be rich to buy American made tools ... and there's other makes of American made tools besides Snap-on and C-man.

What would you do if this government slapped a 55% tariff on HF tools? Because if I had it my way, that's what would happen.

I side with Merkava on this one, especially from his vantage point.

If tommorow, Merk. had to disassemble his whole car and reassemble everything, because keeping his house, and family secure depended on it. He would be forced to buy some China auto specialty tools to get the job done, mostly because there are not American alternatives for alot of things.

Being a consumer and avid tool user albeit where he does not need a literal semi load of tools, he can pick and choose tools from USA sources almost all the time, and I agree that is the right thing to do.

That being said, when I had a big hand tool void after my Snappy clearance, I relied on Craftsman mostly as my affordable refill, until my find of quality Cornwell hardline hand tools.

USA made as much as you can.

I just bought a buffer and grinder from HF, becuase DeWalt and Milwaulkee were also China made..........sometimes these days, there is no choice import or import, pick your poison.

Merk has a valid point, I don't hate harbor freight though, they have a purpose. The sad thing is HF tools are being re-labeled as "high end" pricey tools also, as alot of us have seen.

Yep, I want sets of large sae and metric wrenches.

HF = $40, 1 3/8, 1 1/2, 1 5/8, 1 3/4, 1 7/8, 2". Now, we beat the piss out of these on the farm, so I know they hold up well.

Strap-On=
$98.75 1 3/8
$127 1 1/2
$136 1 5/8
$165 1 3/4
$224 1 7/8
$249 2

Total $999.75

Is it worth $959.75 for a nicer looking wrench? HELL NO.

I agree,I have been looking at the Proto line which is made here in the states, they look decent and not to overly expensive
USA made as much as you can.
I also like to buy USA, but when I am looking to buy tools I like to check them out just to see how well they are made, example would be a ratchet and just how well its action worked, if it was smooth or if it was sloppy, if its got fine gears or not, or maybe just the quality of there materials in general. Just because it was made in the USA doesnt make it good "quality" with out question. Just like a car I like to give them a little test drive and see how well they perform and if they meet my expectations it doesnt matter if its a Import or Not.....I purchase it upon my own evaluation.

"If you have such a problem with imported product then i suggest you call your senetor and congressmen and tell them about it!"

They all know me by my first name at this point.

I never did tell people to only buy SO ... that's something you put in your head yourself. :wtf:

Try reading the rest of that post instead of quoting one line. I explain what I have seen from you on this board regarding your advice to others about buying, for example, C-man tools.

With you, it's always been "SO SO SO SO."

I push all kinds of tools. Whenever someone inquires about combination wrenches, I'll push Cornwell. Whenever someone inquires about screwdrivers, I'll push PB Swiss. With ratchets, it's most definitely Snap-on though. :p

I'd buy all Snap-On stuff...it wouldn't be a question if HF stuff was 55% higher now would it and we wouldnt be talking about it.

On second thought, a 55% tariff and the stuff would still be cheap. :headscrat

Yeah, it still would be cheap but if HF stuff was within dollars not hundreds of dollars of SO stuff. No question i would go back to spending my money on nothing but SO. I feed my family with my tools, but if i spend all i make on those tools im not puttin any food on the table.

I'm thinking a 400% tariff should do the trick. :D

A 400% on HF still not high enough. A HF torque wrench is $20 and an SO torque wrench is $260. It would required a 1300% tarif to make them cost the same. A full polish HF wrench set is $30 and SO is $500. That would required ~ 1700% tarif.
