Bought this set years ago at an estate sale even though I don't collect the brand. Thought it might be useful someday, today is that day. Working on old stuff means needing old tools that are uncommon or not available now.

And what was so unique about the Walden set? Your only SAE, square sockets, etc?
It's not immediately apparent, but if you click on the attachment you can see that he has the 5/8" square socket from the set inserted inside the threaded plug at the top of the cylinder. So, I took him to mean not Walden in particular so much as any older set (Walden, Hinsdale, New Britain, etc) that commonly included male drain plug and other square receptacle sockets.

I think I would be screwed in that situation. While I have lots of square or 8pt sockets, I don’t think I have a single plug like that. Missed them in the image, my phone was not zooming in nicely.

Thanks for pointing it out

I too lack that particular tool. I used to have a door closer just like that one but I junked it.

I have more modern male square plug sockets in my user box but I recently picked up this unbranded less sophisticated unit. IMG_7147.jpegIMG_7146.jpegIMG_7145.jpegIMG_7144.jpeg

Correct! This set has the advantage of being pretty comprehensive in type and sizes. Missing a couple though.

Yes, a door closer. They work excellent if you know how to bleed and adjust them properly. On the door pic.

When I alluded to...
...any older set (Walden, Hinsdale, New Britain, etc) that commonly included male drain plug and other square receptacle sockets.
...upthread, and then I later said,
I think my other sets include only six (6) from 3/8" to 11/16".
...I was mistaken. I thought I had more than just the complement included in the Hinsdale G-50 set I just posted. Specifically, I was thinking of my older New Britain CHROME sets and my large "RAY" set. But I was wrong. I just checked them and they only had square female sockets.

My 1927-29 Splitdorf-Bethlehem Spark Plug Company "G" Set included one, though, in a size my Hinsdale set did not offer, but the Walden did. It was listed on the label as "3/4" Sq. M." You can see it nestled with the drag link, Alemite and wingnut sockets.

Hope you don't mine me continuing, riffing, and elaborating on the theme you started, Stormy. Since we already have not one but two Walden threads, maybe this one can/will evolve into a 'Show us you drain plug sockets' thread! :)

No problem, this was more about using older tools to work on old items. Sometimes it is the best or only way without making a retrofit tool. I have other drain plug tools but the Walden set is the most useful.
