I had to look "Jari" up, had never heard of them. I have a Gravely which is very popular around here. Looks like a fun project.

I hadn't heard of them either, apparently they had been around for a long time.

I ended up pulling the engine and plan on picking up a replacement from HF today. The original could use a new tank and carb as they didn't like sitting for decades with a bit of water in them. Unfortunately B&S replacement parts would be about $185 vs a $99 engine from HF.

I was looking for a decent shaped one all summer and couldn't find one. I ended up buying a Swisher 24" brush mower. Nice score!

Nice find. Love those things. Dang near indestructable. I'm helping a cousin who has one get his going again. Original owner was his grandfather. Unfortunately his brother pulled the spark plug out and it sat outside at the farm for a couple years. Didn't do the engine any good but the rest still works, just needs some TLC.

Good luck with yours.

Still use my 1980 BCS walk behind, sickle bar, water pump, snow blower, tiller.
Rebuilt it in 2000 in Harley colors. Came too close to getting my boot laces caught in the snow blower auger once. Now have the required respect. If you need to rebuild the sickle bar. Tractor Supply has a good selection of teeth.

I was looking constantly for one back in '18 when I bought my property with a bunch of blackberries and other nasty vines and thick grasses a string trimmer would barely put a dent in.

I had been occasionally looking for one for a specific use. This one happened to be less than a hour away and for $100

My string trimmer has a sickle bar attachment, That's what I usually use for brush in hard to access areas. Most of the time I just use my ztr like a brush hog its great as long as its not too steep.

This jari is destined to mow around a pond where we previously were limited to string trimmers due to the steepness of the banks.

Fate shined upon me, while hunting the perfect Christmas tree no less. I saw this with some cut branches on it, likely sitting outside for at least a year. I found one of the older fellas and asked him what the deal was with it, he said they (tree farm workers) hadn't used it in quite a while. I asked him if he would consider selling it, he said yep. I asked him if he'd take $50, he said yep. Luckily we were buying a few trees and had a trailer. Engine oil looks meh, the recoil is locked up. Initially I thought the engine had thrown the rod as it would turn to the same position the stop hard, fortunately it's just the recoil spring getting bound up. Removing the shroud allowed the engine to rotate freely with the piston reciprocating correctly. Tomorrow I'll have time to check the ignition and check everything out more thoroughly. I do believe it's missing a cover from the front top.

Nice. Random finds are always the best deals.. I had been actually searching for a troy built before I found the jari.

I grew up using one of these every now and then. Ours was probably mid-60s, I remember using it growing up in the 80s and it was pretty old then. Looks really similar to yours tho, almost identical.

I will give it credit, that thing could absolutely rip thru a field of locus shoots and blackberry bramble, it took no **** from nobody. Good find, it will surely treat you well!!!

Jar I have never heard of that brand either and I spent about 10+ years in antique steam and gas adventures (club and shows) and a couple of years in lawncare, but that thing does look very useful. Are there any parts still available for that, I see you are missing one tread? That design has some style for a utility tool, especially for that rather bland era! Nice Score! Yeti WOW that thing looks like e beast! REALLY Nice Score! Thanx for sharing gang! Harry.

It came with a extra double wheel that someone had removed one of the treads/tires from. The tire was included as well. After installing it i can see why it was left off. I had to preheat it to 175 degrees (used my ultrasonic tank) and it still took 3 tire spoons and some dish soap. Id compare it to a cold stiff motorcycle tire.

The main mower is mostly just off the shelf parts with the exception of the wheels and drive cogs. They don't seem to be available any longer. The drive system drives the outside of the wheel and would be difficult to replace. Its likely a stock drive/ driven gear from a farm implement but I wouldn't have any clue where to search.

Apparently all of the sickle bar parts are available through aftermarket sources.
