walk in door overhang

Any of y'all build your own overhang over the walk-in door? I was going to head outside earlier and do some maintenance on my pickup and it started raining about the time I got to the walk-in door, and in the process of unlocking the door, I got soaked. Got me to thinking about an overhang of some sort over the walk door. I'd really rather just buy one and install it but I'm not opposed to building my own. Would love to see some pictures.

I use a raincoat, was much cheaper than a porch and does a better job. I do have a towel and a mat just inside the door for these occasions. I think I have used the towel to staunch blood flow, more often than to dry off and it really rains a lot here in Middle TN.

I suspect an umbrella would work as well.

Dang, I was going to mention something silly like that Lowes has the metal awnings to fit. These home made awnings are way more cool.

I put one on a recently acquired garage. It was made from the roof of a shallow well pump house after we converted it to a submersible pump and some leftover pieces of vinyl siding and metal roofing. 'Beat the snow.

When we bought our place the walk in door didn't have an overhang and I considered adding one but it had a small section of roof. Fearing it would look out of place, I decided to go a step further and put one across the front of the entire garage.

Here's a before and after and what happened when I put a gutter on it with a small rope for the down spout.

I wish I would have made it wider.

I've posted it on here before, the hood from a donor Jag. Jag suspension used for my 52 GMC pickup, this was free and easy. Used some black iron pipe for supports and welded some tabs to bolt to garage and hood:

I see many advantages to this treatment. Looks better and added protection for the roll up doors is just two of them. Chip.

NUTTSGT That is an amazing transformation. The after pic looks gorgeous. I never would have thought it possible from the before pic.
