Hello. This is a first time for me being on a forum so i hope it goes well. I have and old Walker floor jack called a Greyhound I think. Its a model 884 by some of the paperwork i have found on line. I rebuilt it years ago and it worked fine for a while then it would not hold the weight of the car. If i pumped fast enough i could get a jackstand under it. Something is leaking and I am wondering if it is the safety valve which is designed to prevent overloading it. I am wondering what the length of the spring should be? Mine is about 7/8 inch long and seems compressed. I suspect if there is not enough pressure on the ball it may leak by. If it does leak by the ball does it recirculate the oil or blow the expansion plug out? If it is designed to blow the plug then I am wrong about the spring. Does anyone know about the hydraulic circuit or what may be leaking under heavy load like a car or pickup. As I pump under load you can hear a squeaking noise like oil blowing over a pressure relief.
Thanks in advance Steve

When a jack leaks as you have described, it is either a discharge ball/seat, or the cup is leaking on the main piston. Do not adjust the overload with out a load cell to determine the actual pressure.
