Walker Floor Jack Handle Question

I obtained an old J134 or early 93657 floor jack and am starting disassembly. I thought I would separate the handle from the jack near the base. It looked as if it slipped over another piece and was retained by two bolts.

I removed the bolts and separated the universal. The handle will not even wiggle. As I look at the handle I can see some areas of weld running up both sides, as shown in the photo:





Are these welds factory? If they were "repairs" after-the-fact, then they may prevent me from separating the handle.

Let me know if your Walker has these welds.

The outer shell will separate from the lower assembly, but you will have to go deeper into it, there is a linkage inside the run the entire length and connects to the release, along with a some shorter leg that changes the angle of pivot point. Outside of that, the 2 bolts are the main connection to the lower assembly, welds look factory.

More than likely the only thing holding you up is the release Rod linkage, I like to unhook from the bottom. May I ask why you want to dissasemble the handle?

Ha-Ha, good question. I really just want to get the handle off, not disassembled. Then I can get the unit up on the work table and get the hydraulic unit out for rebuild.

After scraping off the filth down there I am pretty sure I see what you mean by "unhook from the bottom". I will go in that direction.

Yep, to remove the handle, simply unhook the linkage where it connects to the pump piston (1 cotter key), unhook the release at the universal on top, directly behind the cross bar (1 cotter key or a small bolt/nut) and then it's just a matter of driving the big shaft out that out that runs thru the frame/lower handle assembly.
