Walker Floor Jack Leak, Calling HiBall

Hey Hiball, as you know I recently "restored" an old Napa Walker 2 ton floor jack. All has been great, but I noticed when I tried to use it yesterday that it started ******* fluid out from around this screw. I took the screw out and inspected it (nothing to see really), then put it in good and tight...still leaking profusely from there and won't hold much weight.

What do you think is the failure here? Please god tell me I don't have to take this jack back apart...:(

Is the copper sealing washer in place? Did you use a hand impact to tighten it down?

Just checked and yes, it's there.

Nope, just hand tight, should I hit it with the impact?

I hadn't had it apart before (someone else clearly had given the chowdered screw head). It wasn't leaking before, so not sure what is new now.

When I took the screw out today I noticed a tiny little bit of white gunk on the bottom of the head where it would sit against that copper washer. Knocked it off and tightened it back down (hand tight again). It's raining so I won't be able to test it today most likely. Hopefully that corrosion on the fastener was just creating a place for fluid to leak past the washer. :dunno:

I suspect once you apply Hammer to Hand impact it will fix your problem, it needs to be tight as it holds cylinder pressure on the top end when the jack is under load.

Sweet, I'll get my Milwaukee 1/4" impact driver out and throw a flat head bit in it.

Thanks man.

The best tool for the job is a hand impact as it prevents the bit from camming out.

Yeah, I've got one of those somewhere, but couldn't find it (I never use it for anything). I didn't have a large enough bit for the impact, so I just put a wrench on the normal screwdriver and gave it a nice snugging. Should be fine.
