Walker jack - scored or stiffed?

Since the main parts are drying I decided to take a look at the handle.

Not sure this is factory - it's hard to tell from the drawings I have.

Take a look at this post #1341, it is the inside of one of mine. It's older than yours but almost identical.

I'm out of the country right now, but when I get back if you want better close up pictures of it I can do that. It all seems convoluted but it works.

Short update for today. Got the side plates, 2 casters, 2 wheels, & the last pin wire wheeled, blasted, & primed.

The casters actually both cleaned up nicely. As it turns out there should be grease fittings inside both front wheels and in the middle of the lift arm at the pivot point in the middle of the jack. I'll see if I can figure out what size they are and replace them.

So far so good!

Jonathan, these are the grease zirks you're referring to...

Notice none of them have hex shoulders on them for a wrench so they are press on grease zirks. Both of my Walkers are like this. The size looks to be pretty common. I've not removed mine as yet but once you get the hole cleaned up where they install you shouldn't have any problem getting the correct size.

BB767 - thanks for the information. When this jack was made grease was the only way to lubricate the axles and load pins, but I plan on using a modern dry lubricant instead of grease since grease has a tendency to pick up dirt and grit. I think I'm going to skip the zerks, and leave the holes as is. If at some point in the future I change my mind I can always install them.

I finally made some progress. I picked up this blast cabinet for $89 on sale

and some more glass bead to clean up the small handle parts. I still have a hard time believing how nicely metal turns out after blasting.

While I was at it I bead blasted a few tools, one of which is in the photo. It was a $1 pair of Channellocks from a pawn shop that turned out nicer than I expected.

Over the next few weeks I hope to blast the handle and lift arm assembly, and finally the ram. I've convinced myself that if I mask the plungers I'll be OK in terms of protecting the packing. Then it'll be time to prime, paint, & reassemble.

The last part I have to do is the ram, and hopefully I'll get to that this month. It's been relatively cold here so I haven't been able to do as much as I would have liked.

Argh, no. Still working on it. I have to pick up new bearing balls for the rear wheels, fabricate some small replacement pins, wire wheel the ram, paint, & reassemble.

Right now I have too many projects & not enough hours in the day.

Does anyone know what size steel balls it takes? Mine were gone out of both rear casters.

OK, I re-read the thread and it looks like they are 1/4"......
