Hey everyone! First post here after alot of lurking, lots of great info here! Anyways, I'm in the market for a larger jack for my diesel pick up and I'm finding that alot of the new jacks on the market are of pretty poor quality, even if you spend a little more money. I've pretty well decided that I'll buy an older unit and repair it if need be. Options are fairly limited in my area but I've found two units, a Walker 784 and a Hein Werner GH-1(correct me if I've got the models wrong, I'm fairly new to vintage jacks). The Walker is going for $320 and needs a rebuild and has a dented front wheel and the HW apparently works great and just needs a clean up and is going for $250(prices are in Canadian dollars). I'm wondering what your opinions are as to what would be a better jack and which jack would have better parts availability, both soft and hard parts. Pictures are of the actual jacks for sale. Thanks in advance!

Neither at those prices... The HW will have issues with Hard parts outside of $$$$, the Walker is Cooler of the two with the Cast cover (hard to find) but due to its age it could have unseen issues and no where near worth $320.

I kind of figured the prices were high. The Hein Werner is being sold by a guy who sells used stuff, he has no idea what it is and seemed fairly firm on price, I haven't contacted the other guy about the Walker, partly because Im not sure I could get him down to a fair price. Do you guys have an estimate as to what they would be worth? The Walker would need at a minimum a parts kit and front wheel, I'm guessing that's probably $150 or so in parts, at least.

I would consider a new jack vs. a older jack that needs parts. The smaller jack in the picture is a Strongarm 3 1/2 ton that is about 10 years old. No problems with it. Same model is still available. Strongarm and Jet are part of the same company headquartered in BC

Thanks, I'll have to have a look at the Strongarm. I'm just a sucker for old stuff and I don't mind a project but it doesn't make sense if it's going to cost me a fortune.

The Walker also has something going on with the lower handle assembly, the top part of the quadrant piece is broken, rear caster wheels don't look right either. And how the hell did they sent the front wheels? I've seen numerous flat spots, but dents.... :headscrat

Haha yeah, those are pretty sturdy wheels by the looks of them, I'm not sure how they could possibly have been dented, people are capable of amazing thing though it seems. Looks like I should definitely steer clear of the Walker, I might wait and see how long the HW sits for, he might be willing to let it go for less if he doesn't get any action. I know you are the man around here when it comes to jacks, do you happen to sell rebuilt jacks or are you just into parts?

Anybody ever buy a reconditioned jack from Pedersen's Hydraulic Jack's? I've only seen one review, and it definitely wasn't great.
