A buddy told me about the ad on CL so I called he still had it gave him $80 and took it home. Doesn't have the low speed pulley or lift but everything else is original. Cleaned it up last night and today bearings are in great shape it purrs. Going to keep this one.

It is a 900 series. The badge says 1-944 I believe this was their way of to identify their equipment before they put unique serial numbers on their equipment .

Is I-944 on the head badge? I have the same press, and I think it is 1944, the year it was made (mine says ser. 1-1140, I remember reading that the last 2 digits was the year)

Yes 1-944 it is on the head badge. Here is what I found on the badge with a Serial/model number

Type 1: The first serial number system began in 1939, although not all machines had them that year. These followed no logical pattern and were more akin to a model number than a unit-specific designation. Some of the numbers indicate the year that the model was introduced (not necessarily built) as the last two digits. See the machine-specific section below for details. Note that although the original document lists serial numbers with dashes, the numbers that were stamped onto the badges often used a space instead.

Good thing the bearings were OK. They use an odd size bearing that you can't find off the shelf. The only place to get them is Walker Turner Service Parts, and they are expensive. I have a 16" & 20" WT, they work great !
