Hi All...hoping to find some guidance and suggestions...

I recently picked up a Walker-Turner 900 series drill press which I hope to clean and do a partial restore. The motor hums but will not start without some help. When the spindle is spun by hand, the motor will run. The capacitor is toast. I am not an electrician or have much electrical knowledge and want to replace it with a suitable replacement while maintaining the original look and integrity of the machine. The original capacitor was held onto the motor by a metal bracket. I would like to find something similar in size and appearance to replace the capacitor so the metal bracket can be reused. The capacitor has a metal cap and phenolic body. I took it apart to see what, if anything, could be salvaged. The phenolic body is 4 7/16" h x 2 1/16" dia. As near as I can tell, the I.D. on the case is :
Mallory AC Motor Starting Capacitor / MFD 340 110vac / 95539 235652
Online research leads me to believe I need a replacement 110/115v, 340 MFD. I've spent time online but haven't been able to find the exact replacement. If necessary, I might be able to reclaim the phenolic housing and insert a smaller capacitor in that housing as long as it had the same electrical specifications. If anyone more knowledgeable than me can offer suggestions regarding a suitable replacement, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much in advance...!

Your voltage spec is a minimum spec so a 200+ volt will work. 340mf is what that one is but anything in the 300 to 400mf range will work. Start caps are not a tight tolerance thing so something close will usually work. I would suggest that you take it to a good plumbing/pump shop or motor shop and they should have a start cap on the shelf for you.
