I recently acquired a honest looking Walker Turner 900 series drill press. The previous owner told me he bought it rough and abandoned from an old garage and cleaned/ oiled it. I don’t know much about it, not sure if it is all original or not but it runs as it should and it looks like everything is there.

If I bring the chuck down far enough, the whole thing falls out. I had a bench top Delta drill press and that one had a stop on it. Is there a collar I can put on this chuck so it stops it from falling out?

Any input would be appreciated

It looks like the feed stop assembly is missing. The feed stop prevents the quill assembly from feeding out of the casting.

Quick update on this machine…
I found a stop assembly.

She was running a little loud and the quill was not returning. I took it completely apart. Gave it a nice bath in the ultrasonic cleaner. This got rid of all the dried and caked grease and brightened up that gray paint. It free’d up the bearings and shined the metal up really nicely.

The return spring got some repair but that was pretty easy. The handles and hardware got cleaned of surface rust. The post was also cleaned and degreased. Everything was oiled and greased up as required. The press is back in one piece. It is running a lot smoother and quieter now. The bearings will need to be replaced at some point. Maybe one day I’ll have the ambition to fix that arc of shame.
