Did your spring break or is it missing completely? My Spring broke right at the end where it slips in the slot and then unloaded it's tension. I re bent the end and rewound it so it would return the chuck as before. When mine let loose it almost took off across the shop because there was no cover to hold it in place. I decided that I would design a steel cover to hold it in place to prevent this from happening. A took a piece of steel tube and welded a disc on it then attached over the coiled spring, so far this has solved the problem and cost nothing.

Watch your fingers when winding the springs... don't ask how I know, lol...

The spring broke, I can see the bent piece still outside housing.
