I have a chance to pick up what appears to be a vintage drill press. I like old stuff, and am looking to pick up a few things like this.

I has the original 1/2 H.P. motor. The drill itself has the serial # of: 1 147

Looks pretty original aside from the on/off switch and the attached wire that goes to the motor.

Any idea as to value? I'm happy to pay what it's worth, but not looking to overpay if I can help it.

Your first three pictures are displaying as very low resolution on my phone but from the second picture it appears to have the low speed pulley. That is a very desirable option if you plan on drilling steel.

Maybe these pics are better.

The guy is out of town until Friday, so I'm hoping to check it out then.

Great press. I have a bench mount, and a floor model. Looks complete and un-abused. What does the table look like? Yours has the origional motor = $50, vise = $25, and the slow speed center pulley = $75-$100. I would say anything under $200 would be a great deal in my SW Ohio area. Will clean up nice. Can find lots of info at www.owwm.org.

If you have not bought it yet please do !! As was said it has the low speed pulley assembly on it if you look around the cost for that piece alone if oem is 200 ish location dependent I have rebuilt one 1944 press and have another to do you can get bearings for the motor and quill no problem you can also get a new capacitor for the motor. If you need info on how to break it down for rebuild PM I have some detailed pictures I took breaking mine down. It now lives at my fathers place but I have another one just like it to rebuild for me. I paid 65 for the first one ( table had a chip out of it) and 80 for the second here in the Mid Atlantic area. If either had the slow speed attach I would have paid 75 to a 100 more .

I picked one up just like it minus the vice for $65 just a few months ago. I would have been willing to pay twice that since it came with a 3/4 hp motor. Mine did not have a vice but did have the low speed pulley. I have a delta and a craftsman 150 as well. The Walker Turner is now my goto drill press. Mine also has an Arch of shame not real bad but it is there.

Arch of shame? That sounds bad...

The arc of shame is holes drilled into/through the drill press table by someone who didn't care about their tool. If you do it enough and at different angles, the holes form an arc on the table. Occasionally you see some tables that are so bad you worry they are going to break in half.

Tables can be replaced or repaired to some extent, but if you see an arc of shame, be aware that the press may not have been well taken care of and may have more issues.

That's a nice bench press, with the slow pulley and vise I would go up to about $200 max personally. Good luck, let us know how you do.
