Hello all,
came across this walker turner drill press for sale and would like any opinions on it. I could be wrong but it looks to be a 900 series with a serial number of 1-147. has a third pulley which I believe was an add on option. seller says it operates and quill retracts fine. asking 75.00......

It is probably already gone. It has the slow-speed option, but is not hooked up. That option is very sought after.

That's a good price for an excellent D/P. The slow speed set-up is not factory but handy to have. The factory slow speed sheave was attached through the hole in the extended motor mount casting via a short shaft threaded at the end and adjusted by two thumb nuts.

well was able to be the first at looking at this press and checked out play in quill and operation. quill is good and runs very quiet. bottom line I now have a walker turner press added to the collection. for the price I thought could not go wrong especially when others were lined up to look/buy.

I think that you're going to be very happy with that machine. Mine is my go-to.

Table is in nice shape, not all drilled full of holes like they usually are.

Not a bad deal, it has the belt cover, and maybe the spindle cover. But, it has the arc of shame on the table, and a lot of rust.

It's a project, but it could be worthwhile, depending on the spindle bearings.

Does that one have the "ship's wheel" to lower the quill?

well guess I am getting addicted as I went to look at this 900 series press. it does have the cast iron belt guard and came with a sturdy steel table. I'll be busy for awhile besides other hobby restoring toy trains. no more china made presses for me.

I hope you pounced on that drill press! All that paint did it's job keeping the rust away on some of the parts, making getting it back into shape easier.

Well, the ship's wheel seems to be highly desirable, and they sell for more than the asking price. Personally, I like the regular handles better.

For crying out loud, why do you keep asking if something is a good deal? Are you unable to make a decision on your own? Are you that insecure?

Ya know, people come here to learn. Take it easy on Jsulli.
But, I thought you bought the first one you were posting about--the one with the 3rd set of pulleys. Are you going to combine them, and put the ship's wheel on the slow-speed model. That would be awesome if that's your plan.

I did buy the first one and second with the belt guard both bench models. moved on and found a floor model with a belt guard also and it has the table lift also. I am presently working on one that will have the belt guard and planning on adding a vfd to it. still may go on to built one more. that ships wheel really looks good and still may purchase even though seller will only sell whole unit. summertime is drill presses and winter is vintage trains. thanks for the nice reply.

Ignore him. It is not personal. He is frequently negative. You can probably figure out who is insecure. Welcome to the forum.

For 30+ years I owned a floor model drill press, only using the extra height ONCE. I finally got smart, sold it, and got a dual gang Rockwell which has 2 bench-sized DPs on it. Couldn't be happier.
