Just recently acquired a WT 16" that did not have the gear box and I found one through much effort that was reported to not work.
This was in fact true , when I received it the gears were in very nice shape except the driven gear was non existent.
The question to the world is ,does anyone have a complete working box they don't want or one that is not working that they are willing to part with or part out.
here are some pictures of it in its current state of restoration

Thanks for responding . I was hoping to not have to do that as it is a double gear, at least that what it appears to be in the not very revealing WT manual reprint. I could take the unit to a gear distributer to figure out the details . Not to sound lazy but I'd rather find a gearbox being dismantled .

Hey there. I’m in the same position. These gearboxes and those with serviceable gears (less than three teeth in a row broken) are getting a little more difficult to find.

Being helical gears, reproduction gets very complicated. Most gear shops (including those mentioned above) do NOT carry helical gears, and those that will make them for you will require plans.

There is a guy, Jeff, who runs Walker Turner Serviced Machinery in CT who does have the plans Anna machine shop who can make them. They are pricey though, at like $400-600 per gear. No, that’s not a typo.

I thought about replacing mine (and I’m missing the same “double” gear with straight gears. The downsides are:
- less strength
- more difficult engagement
- noisier
* the last two I could care less about but the first is concerning.

Alsobnote, that the 16” and the 14” had differing gearboxes at certain times. WT made these with BOTH 10 deg and 30 deg helix angles. Why, God only know.

If this helps, here is what I have been able to gather about each of the gear dimensions.

If you do find a willing and reasonable manufacturer, please text or call me, maybe we can get a group buy or bulk deal going: 631-704-4596

2. Combo Gear
