Well Lads,

I've completely gutted my 70's era 28 x 14 attached garage, Had a 9 x 5 window installed at one end overlooking the lake. Put a new layer of drywall on the ceiling and then completely primed and painted the entire garage. All but the first four feet from the floor is high gloss dove grey. The walls and ceiling are high gloss white. Have a couple of high performance compact florescents to install.

Here's the question..... I would like to add an accent between the grey and white. Painting a red or bue stripe is an option....but I was thinking wouldn't it be great if someone like 3M offered a 3" or 4" painters tape with a pattern cut into the tape like a stencil. I could just choose my pattern say "leaf" tractor or motorcycle or Ford or whatever and roll it out at the correct level then either spray or roll over the openings and then reomve the tape and voila....instant durable accent.

Am I onto something here or has someone already thought of this and maybe I can just buy a roll somewhere???

Any ideas, Love to see your creativity with a few pics. I'll post pics as soon as I receive a new camera from Amazon and go snap happy.:bounce:

Certainly an option....but so far any of the bought stencils are typically 12" or so long. I'd rather simply roll out a line of painters tape with a design cut into it....no muss no fuss vs copying the 12" stencil 50 or so times to cover the circumference of my garage.

I taped up each layer in tape, and removed the ones I did not need. I snapped a fine chalk line for the first straight edge, and that was it.

i'm thinking a trip to a sign shop could net you a stencil that is 3" or 4" high by say 3' or 4' long. not quite what you are looking for, but i think better than a 12"x12" stencil.

Thinkin that may be the route I go also. I may see if I can use my B&D laser level to set the height rather than chalk....don't know how it'll work over 28ft but we'll see. Thanks for the suggestion.

Virago9577.

Laser level would be a nice way to go.

I used regular colonial casing, you could paint it any color you like. Unlike striping tape it can continue around door and window trim...if that appeals to you.

The concrete block photo is another building, painted stripe and used 3/8" pin stripe tape top and bottom to give it a clean edge and contrast color

Well,

Thanks for all the great suggestions. After much deliberate thought and penny pinching I decided to go with the following Nascar themes wall paper border. Each roll is 15' x 8" and should look great. I'm not a hugh Nascar fan but the Nascar insignia every few feet will blend nice with the checked racing theme. Besides it was reasonably cheap at just over $10.00/ 15' roll. In all the total cost to do the entire garage including shipping ran just over a hundred bucks....which I thought was pretty good. I will post pics once I get back up and have a chance to install. I have included a couple of pics that show the old small window and the larger 9' x 5' window set we put in facing the water. We spayed Icynene insulation in the entire face so it is really tight against the weather. Also put five coats of primer and two costs of high gloss white on the ceiling and upper walls. dove grey from the floor to 4 ft.

Here is a pic of the old small garage window - above in the previous post is a pic of the new 9' window. The second pic is what one would typically see looking out on the water.

Regguy1 - Really like your garages clean functional layout - How do you like your Maxjack....seen several posts and think it is a really good idea if you're height limited as I am.

Virago9577

Thanks,

I'm happy with the MJ, it saved me lot of work modifying the ceiling and even then the OH door would hit the car with a full height lift.

Here's the video tour:
