Need ideas for wall mounted cabinets in standard subdivision garage. I have purchased a Kreg Jig for the project so far. I want a professional looking cabinets when I am done. I would love some metal custom cabinets but they are out of my budget.

The cabinets I have envisioned will mount flush with the ceiling in the back of a third bay (tandem garage). The cabinets will be used for storage of items that are not used very often. I would like one shelf in the middle and a couple cabinets should be open for storage of larger items. I'm also going to add overhead storage above the garage for plastic bins. This should free up my current shelves on the side of the garage.

I would also like to update the lighting as the same time & change my original garage layout. My third bay was used to house my sports car and sportbike. Now I've added a goldwing to the garage and the sports car has found its way to the front of the garage. The rear is now Moto parking and there is more real estate to play with.

I'm planning on getting a tire changer and looking at the no-mar junior pro model. For about the same price I can get a Derek Weaver machine and thinking about doing this instead. It will take up more space & I won't be able to mount it outside like my original plan for the no-mar. I was going to set up a quick release base plate for the no mar and store it someplace in the garage when not in use.

This house is not the ideal situation as I'd love to have a full shop to do what I want when I want! This HOA **** is getting old. But like I keep telling the wife it's just a starter home. Next house will have some land for a shop or we keep looking! It would be a bonus to find a house with a shop already on sight but don't think that many will fit my wants. I'd like to get a lift and want tall ceilings. ~15 or 16 feet above the lift area.

Anything I do in this place will be inexpensive or should be mobile. I'm not going to spend lots of money for someone else. Chances are the next owners of the house will only park a vehicle in the garage and leave the rest bare.

Anyone have suggestions? I was thinking about expoxy floors but $200 for a kit seems like a waste as this is a temporary house until I can find something I really want. I've been in it for 5 years and have no idea how much longer we will be in it.

As far as garage cabinets go, just google it or grab a pad of paper and draw some out. Obviously with a kreg jig you need to stick to 90 degree angles. I recently made some cabinets out of MDF and liked the result. If you are going to be hanging the cabinets, I wouldn't go any bigger than 1/2" MDF.

Here are some easy plans that Kreg provides..

Thanks for the link. I've logged in and it looks good. Just need to find some good cabinet door plans. I'd like it to spruce it up a little.

Any pictures of designs you like? There are ways to spruce up wooden cabinets with faux steel edge tapes or vinyl wraps, although the latter can get costly.

I rarely install my shop cabinets flush with the ceiling. Partly because I use French cleats to hang them and you need some space to bring the cabinet in over the cleat and drop them down. But I also like to leave a space to store a few longer items that don't otherwise have a good space in the garage.

If you want that area hidden you can put in a false panel above the cabinets that matches the cabinet construction.

Upper cabinets are pretty simple and cheaper to build than lowers, especially lowers with drawers so you should be able to go wild with your imagination.
