Wall Finishing Question?

How would you finish this wall?

I would like to either put up plywood or wainscoting above the 2x8 base. But I also don’t care too much about the block wall either. I would like to do something to protect my wife’s car door as well. The other wall has her yard tools.

Any thoughts?

Let's see pictures of how you finished this type of wall situation.

Thanks

I just nailed a 1x4 to the top of the 2x4 framing and then painted the block. But I only had one row and even that was a pain.

I really like the corrugated metal look like "The Shrine" is using.

I don't know whether the block is above or below ground level, but I would put some visqueen (plastic sheeting) over the block, some 1" x 2" firring strips screwed to the blocks, some 3/4" styrofoam insulation between the firring strips, then either drywall, OSB, corrugated metal, or whatever you want to finish it off with. Add a flat cap to the top of the finished area.

Corrugated metal looks good. I wonder how much I can get that for.

The garage floor is flush with the driveway. Raised flower beds on the outside.

What is the easiest way to connect the furring strips? How far apart 24"?

I would use Tapcon screws http://www.concretescrews.com/ and space the furring strips every 16". The reason I say 16" is that is how far it is between mortar joints. Add a wood spacer to the sill plate to bring it out even with the block, then the top of the firring strips can fasten to that. Then if you add the corrugated metal, bring the top cap across and over, covering the sill plate and the top of the metal.

I'm in Ohio too. I'm a mechanical engineer that builds and designs a variety of commercial buildings. Currently unemployed due to the drop in the retail and restaurant market. Seems like everyone is holding off till the first of the year. Thus, I'm working on all the house and Garage projects.

I'm dangerous when it comes to architectural details. I guess I should get a book. Thanks for your help.

Is that an old mustang door in that second pic? Looks to be either the 65/66 or 67/68 bodystyle, but difficult to tell due to the lighting in the pic
