I hope to actually have room for my tools when I move sometime before the end of the year. I'm not sure if I want a big tool box or have a lot of stuff hung on the wall. I have a few piece of the Gladiator Garage Works stuff and really like it.

So what are the pro's and con's of each? What do you prefer?

I prefer a big tool for most things.

I do like screwdrivers hung up on walls, and any of the big tools.

Basically if it can't be organized well in a box, i want it on the wall. If it can be organized easily, i want it in a box.

If i run out of room, it goes on a wall. :)

Also: Wall space taken up by tools is space that shelves or cabinets could otherwise occupy.

I have all my mechanical tools in a box. I do have some pegboard on the wall of the other side of the garage, those are mostly wood working home improvement tools.

Just remember, the box can be locked up to secure the tools. The flip side to that is, the box can be stolen unless it is secured to the garage.

Tool boxes and enclosed storage is my preference. The pro: your tools do not get dusty/dirty from hanging out in the open. Con: You can not just reach over and grab something quickly.

An organized tool box far exceeds any wall hung tools. As mentioned, screwdrivers and a few choice tools on a wall or rack but outside of that......box it!

for the most part
hand tools, pullers, most air tools, clamps, measuring devices and test eq in one of (several) toolboxes, grinders, sanders, ect in a large wall cab.

woodworking type stuff stays in the house, most of it piled up on the bottom shelf of the woodworkers bench in the basement. some larger things are hung on a pegboard above the bench.

in my smallish 19x22 garage wall and floor space is at a premium, everything is easily moved if i need to

I have a roll-around that I can do just that with. It is nice to take your tools

out in the driveway to the jobsite. I also have tools hung on the wall,

over the workbench, that are handy for when I am doing a project there.

There is also an old set of 4 drawer file cabinets that have most of all the

carpenter stuff in them. After filling all those areas, I started to use a set of

open shelving for things like tap and die sets, spare hardware, plastic boxes

filled with electrical connectors, springs, knobs, rubber washers, cotter pins,

misc hardware, and you-name-it, as well as spare tools, and a kitchen sink !

If I have learned anything in my 65 years, it is you can't have enough toys.

I think you will find your own way in this, but don't just settle for one

solution.
