I am about 75% through with my 31x54x12 garage addition. (I'd be 95% through if not for a sorry a__ electrician.) I am going to put a type of wooden paneling on the walls and ceiling-luan (not the correct spelling?). They use it for cornice material down here (Deep South). I am going to paint it (latex).
I have a seperate room where I have a floor drain and I will wash some cars in there and eventually do a bit of painting. Is there a wall material that would be better than the material mentioned above? Someone mentioned some sort of wallboard that was fibreglass based. Anyone know about such?
Thanks for any ideas.
Mike

They make a wallboard used in bathrooms and showers but it's not made to be painted. Maybe you can use StoreWALL it's made of PVC and has the capability of hanging accessories from it. Pretty cool product and versatile. I'm going to be using it on an entire wall in my garage. It's not for everybody and I would get the heavy duty for a "working" garage. I'm a dealer if your interested.

You could use FRP panels which are sold at HD/Lowes. It is about 3/32" of an inch and is glued over drywall. You see them used in bathrooms in gas stations and fast food stores a lot these days. They come with inside and outside corners and **** joint trim. I used it in our laundry room and the stuff can take a beating.

The is also Densglass which is drywall with a fiberglass cover/face on it. It is used under or behind stucco or EFIS but is not made to be a finished product. You can Google it I'm sure.

Stop by your local Rental Car place or quarter car wash they usually have a waterproof sheetboard material on the walls of their wash bays at least they do here in Michigan. Would love to see some pics of what you come up with as I plan to do a wash bay in mine as well. Another option would be to use a 'GOFF' curtain to partition off the car only when you want to work it with the hose. Do a search on ebay and you will see what I mean.

Check out Royal Renu wall panels. They are what car washes are putting in now. The old FRP are terrible to clean in a commercial setting, but maybe good enough for home. Also check out Extrutech panels. It's expensive but hey if you want to go all out.

The neat stuff about those panels, especially the Royal, is that you can skip the drywall stage. BTW those vinyl sheds that HD sells are made by the same company, Royal.

Maybe I'm nuts, but I like sheetrock with oil base enamel paint. The paint is waterproof and durable and...... CHEAP. Shops change, an its hard to get rid of holes you put in some of those other materials. Sheetrock is easy to patch and paint. Most folks that use plywoods and such have an aversion to wallboard because they hate taking the time to learn taping and mudding.
