I picked this up today. A friend had it stored in the back of his shop and said I could have if I hauled it off. Upon further inspection this unit has never been installed. I was hoping it would be a heat pump model, but it looks like it is air only. It has a 4kw radiant heat strip but I believe that is for removing humidity. The manufacture specs says it is used to cool telecommunication enclosures and buildings. It is a 2.5 ton or 24000 btu cooling unit. I have a 24x32 shop with 12 ft ceilings. Does anybody have any experience with these? Do you think it will cool my shop if the wall and ceiling are insulated?

I've seen many of those installed in communication trailers, which usually have a small area to cool with a high heat load. Not too sure on how it would work in a larger shop though.

I might try calling the factory, they are in Cordele. I like the idea of a wall mount due to the terrain and I couldn't beat the price. But I certainly don't want to install it if it won't work.

Worst case, do you have a walk through door you could do a temp install in? That way you could see how it performs before permenantly installing it?

You're probably right on with calling the manufacturer though. Because that may not be the designed application, they may not say it will work, but I would imagine you can feel them out for some info. Either way, I'd try to test it in a non-permanent way before doing any major modifications though.

Good luck and let us know what you find out.

I spoke with the manufacturer today, and they told me that several people have used these air conditioners on shops. I also called a friend of mine that does alot of industrial HVAC and he told me that he has serviced several of these units. He said that I could change out the heat radiants to 7.5kw as long as I sized the electrical for it. This should do fine for my needs in the shop.:rocker::p:lol::D
