Just so it doesn’t look like I haven’t done anything recently, here’s an all-aluminum wall mount storage hutch made a few weeks ago.

All the aluminum sheet is 1/8” thick 6061-T6. The tube at the front of each shelf is 1” x .063 square 6063 and the mount flange at the top is 1/4 “ thick. The tubes are to provide support along the front edge and are pop riveted in place.

There was some (2 - 4'x8' sheets) left over 1/8” material that was already paid for by a commercial customer, so I snagged it; and on Christmas Eve, when the waterjet was idle, cut all the parts for this. My goal was to not do any additional fabrication (no aluminum chips on the floor). I just wanted to fit the pieces together and lay in a few short welds, hang it on the wall and voila, extra storage.

Thats very similar to a lot of old steel ones I see on ebay over here. Most seem to be war surplus and in a bronze green or olive drab satin paint.

Nice! Would you mind sharing dxf drawings of the parts? I was thinking of doing the same. I'm sure the dimensions wouldn't be the same for my wall, but curious what cuts you made for the assembly.

If you did this out of steel, do you think 18 gauge would be rigid enough? Or would 16 be the better choice?

PM me an email address to send the CAD files. In steel, I'd go with 16ga if it's available. I'd also plan on rolling over any unsupported edges.
