Wall mount for condenser

Had a 3 ton minisplit installed. Not so thrilled about indoor unit directly mounted to wall considering I was told it would have plywood backer. Any concerns with it being directly on the spray foam?

My bigger concern is the way the wall mount was done. Directly on the metal and not into a purlin. HVAC company says they do it like this all the time. Not attached to anything inside. To fix this I was thinking of getting longer bolts and have a 2x4 or 2x6 backer on the inside. Would this be sufficient? Any other ideas? Appreciate it

A lot of money hanging on a couple screws. I through bolt those hangers. Through bolted the condenser could be slid out a couple inches for more clear air flow. That assuming the line set can handle it.

Check the install specs on the outdoor unit - they typically show minimum clearances from walls, and I am guessing it is way more than that.
That said I also wouldn't want to move it any further out until it is actually solidly mounted - those suckers are heavy and the brackets need to go into something structural.

That's a pretty bad install. When the self tappers wiggle loose on the condenser side, the metal will get so torn up that someone will have to fix it properly.

Is the evap mounting plate screwed into the spray foam?

The line set is supposed to be a minimum of 10' long. They did not do that either.

Terrible work like this is why these companies are asking for the check right now. If you had a chance to ask someone before you wrote the check they would not be getting paid.

They will come out and say "we have never seen that before"!

With the condenser is up so high and a slope what a pain to work on. How far is the nearest hose bib? Need one to clean the unit.

I don't like that for a lot of reasons, most stated above. Airflow clearance from the wall, and I can't see how the indoor unit is mounted at all are the biggies. Are the screws penetrating the wall metal or????

I'd not be concerned with the exterior mount from a weight perspective as they don't really weigh much and most of it is in shear, not tension on the screws. But, again I can't really see how it's mounted nor what kind of screws they used. But it does need to be further from the wall which increases the tension loading on the (2/3/4??) screws.

Edit: noticed the lack of a convenience outlet for 120v needed for service.

Not so worried about the indoor unit being like that. I will seal the outside where the bolts are. I just dont like what it looks like on the outside even though inside looks fine

So it not bolts with washers/nuts on the inside?? Just actual lags?

Hell, they could've hung it about a foot lower and used the girts to screw into??

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that was all the line they had, so they just ended it right there. I hope you can get them to come back and do it right, if that's possible...

Here is the prep I did for my minisplits before the sprayfoam went in. The strut channel on the outside is 24" on center where the condensers will mount. There is a strut channel on the inside that is nut and bolted to the condenser strut channel on the outside and the 2.5" square framing on the inside. The evaporators are mounted into actual wood.

The rest of the strut channel is nut and bolted to the girders for accessories down the road.
