hello.

Im looking for some opinions.

I am building a garage with a 20ft by 8ft residential garage door. Raised panel. By clopay.

Im guessing it weighs about 350 I think.

I want to put a wall mounted opener genie. Chamberline etc.

All of these give usage ratings of upto 18ft door and max weight of 850 pounds. More than double the weight of what I think my 20ft door will be.

other listed limitations on these openers are

180 saft area……..mine is at 160
max height 14ft……mine is at 8
max Width 18….mine is at 20
Weight limit 850pounds……mine estimated around 350

Do you think it would be ok to use one of these openers in my application?since I’m way under the max weight

Or is there another opener I can use.

Again. It’s just a standard residential door with 5 panels. Non insulated

I’m trying to put a lift in the garage so I would like the clearance.

Thx!!!

I have a liftmaster 8500 on my insulated 18x8 door with no issues... I'd assume if all those spec categories are under the limit, it would be fine.

Sounds like the specs on the opener are sufficient for your door.
Your biggest problem may be actually getting the door!!!
I hope you ordered it already.
Ordered my 18x7 Clopay in November... it just came last week!!!

I work for a company that is a clopay distr and I couldn't get my door without huge delays. I think non-insulated are coming faster but we have been having issues with springs and tracks that are holding up things also. I moved into my house with no garage doors then had some mismatched panels installed for 4 months before the doors came in. All in I waited almost a year. Things aren't that bad now though.

Also, there are wall mount openers for bigger doors. All big commercial doors we install have wall mount openers.

weight should be a non-issue
the springs will take care of that

Duneslider…or anyone

you mentioned there are wall mount openers fir bigger doors… mind sharing what models would be good for my application

i had a garage door company come out (through Home Depot) to asses the installation of a clopay HDB4…20x8 non insulated 24 gauge door.

his concern was since the jack shaft turns the shaft at the end (rather than from the center) it may cause uneven load? Torque/twist the shaft

one guy said they can put some additional support brackets along the length of the shaft?

I am not sure if it’s a single shaft or a split shaft

thoughts?
