Wall mount vacuum for garage

All,

I am looking for a wall-mount vacuum for my garage and the more research I do and reviews I read, the more confused I find myself.

I am specifically looking at the Vacumaid GV30 (or GV50) and the Bissel Garage Pro.

I saw a Vacumaid model at the local Ford dealership and it looked to be of good quality, but I wasn't able to play with it. Are those models worth a premium over a wall-mounted Bissel Garage Pro?

How is the suction for these units compared to a 5 or 6 HP shop-vac?

What are the adavantages of the Vacumaid Pro models over the lower-tiered models?

Are there any other models out there that y'all have experience with and like?

Does it have to be wet/dry? Interesting there's no specs on the Bissel HP or CFM on their site. You could look for a nice used central vac unit and just block off the inlet that would be used for the house piping, good thing about the modern units is they can power accessories through the hose.

I don't have any experience with either of those. About 15 years ago I bought a Hoover GUV which they don't make any more. But it's similar in concept... I don't use it all the time but several times a year to vacuum out the car or stuff off the floor.

It is nice having the vacuum attached to the wall and the hose looped up, makes it easy to grab and use. Although sometimes if I want to vacuum the car while it's in the driveway I have to pull the whole thing down and take it outside and that's a pain. The Hoover is also kind of a pain to empty as it's a bit like a shop-vac without a bag. Dump out the bottom bucket, and then blow out the filter. Which is a dirty job.

The only thing that really differentiates it from a shop-vac is going to be the hose. They come with a 30' long hose that's pretty flexible and durable. But you can buy that as an optional accessory for a shop-vac.

I'd look into options for getting a good hose for a shop-vac...

I have a slightly used house central vac in my garage. Did a small job for a friend who is a central vac dealer. Next day he showed up with the complete system and even mounted it ! Works great for cleaning out the cars and the garage.

I have a VacuMaid. Quite happy with it. No experience with the Bissel though...

We get a lot of wind. And we have a lot of dirt (no hardscape). My shop gets lots of dust/sand blown in and the vac does a great job of cleaning it up. Very convenient to have the hose coiled on a garden hose wall mount cradle.

I have a Metropolitan hanging on the wall with 30' of hose. Very well made, works great.

Sears used to sell one with 30’ of hose and a remote on/off switch. Worked well for keeping the fleet presentable. Sadly, I did not get that in the divorce

I have the Vacumaid GV50 and I love it. Super strong suction even after i added a couple of fitting to use a hose reel with it. Love the hose reel makes it super easy to pull it out and put it away fast.

took some finagling to get the reel to work with 1 1/2" hose. The best reel I liked was made fr 2 1/2 hose for large shop vacs.

i bought 2 these hoses just for the ends to make the reel work. If you do wood work the other ends are useful for attaching to sanding and cutting tools for dust control.

Is this just to clean the inside of the car with? A small cordless vac seems much less bulky and easier than something mounted to a wall and a bunch of hose to drag around and then store.

If you were into wood working could you use a saw dust collection unit for both?

Also have the VacuMaid GV50 Pro. Really like it. Good tools and roughly 5 million times better than the cheap shopvacs. Great suction.
