I grabbed 2 hangers for holding shovels / rakes, etc. Before I put them up, I'd like to do something to protect the lower part of the wall where the tools would bump against it. I'm likely painting the lower portion of my walls a gray color and was thinking some stainless kick plates might work well. Has anybody done anything else?

Don't ask.
I put reclaimed laminate flooring behind mine.
I think the top (where the metal edges are) takes more abuse than the bottom (where the handles bump it).

Are you throwing these yard tools from across the garage to hang them? I cannot imagine wall damage if hung by a person that cared about their property.
Now if you have teenagers that are going to be doing the work, you better go with some armor plating. :lol_hitti

Aluminum diamond plate would look great in any setting.

I just painted the walls where I hang my yard tool and wondered the same thing. I didn't want to put them back yet until I figured it out. It's easy to get scrapes and scuffs on the wall sliding things around. Plus being the trashcan and recycling wall, I do a lot of reaching over and bumping into things.

Well see, there's our difference. My fat sloppy self looks like I never get up off the couch. So I must leave a trail of destruction behind so people know I've been working!
Be it the garage floor covered with saw dust or sweaty and nasty clothes from the yard work thrown on the bathroom floor, I leave evidence!!

I recall my Dad putting bare T-111 siding on the wall behind the "outdoor tool" storage. It never got painted but was much tougher than the drywall.

I'm liking the idea of doing one wall of diamond plate as a wainscoating and painting the other walls in a similar gray. I need to do some searching to find the best shipped price for a dull gray finish. I've seen vinyl offered in similar textures as well but figure that'd be more difficult to install.
