I have had an old Kenmore canister vac mounted on the wall in the attached garage for many years. It finally gave it up so its time for something to replace it. I have been looking at the wall mounted SHop Vac and the one that Hoover sells too. The Hoover comes with a 30ft hose which will get anywhere in the 2 car garage easily. The Shop Vac is only 18 ft. I have a big shop vac in my detached garage, so I dont need anything crazy, just gets used for vacuuming the cars and minor dirt on a small work bench.

If any of you guys have a wall mounted vac, how about some comments on how they are.

Thanks in advance,

I have two used central vac systems that I got for free. Next door neighbor had it in the alley waiting for the trash man. Cord was cut off, put a new one on, nothing wrong with it, works really good. I mounted it inside the garage on the wall, use it for everything.

The next spring, the neighbor two doors down, same thing. I took the central vac home, took the canvas bag filter out of the inside, which was plugged solid, put it in the wife's washing machine ( please don't rat me out on that one). Dried it out, and the vac works fine.

I had purchased a see through cyclone previously, and took both central vacs, hooked them up in series. There is a thread on the Home Shop Machinist site with the tests they did to prove that two vacs mounted in series works better than one. Placed the cyclone on top of the first one, so most of the trash goes into the canister below. Excellent suction with the two of them in series, and all the noise is outside now, in a small enclosure. Only the central vac pipe comes through the wall. I have each motor on a separate switch and circuit. Just plug the hose into the central vac outlet and hit both switches.

I have no filter on the vac motor on top of the cyclone, and I had to take the motor off once and have it taken apart at the vac shop. It was a $350.00 motor they told me, and they have a special press to take it apart and put it back together, so now I'm more careful not to **** up any little strips of plastic bags or insulation. That's what got stuck in the motor and screwed it up. Other than that, been using it for a couple years now.

I have a NuTone central vacuum system that I removed from a house that was slated for demolition. I know the contractor, he gave me the unit, and a ton of extra bags. The unit itself was only a couple of years old.

I have central vac in the garage too and use it for light duty stuff. It is the main unit for the house, but there is a single hose connection in the garage too. I have a regular Craftsman vac for wood working and wet/heavy use.

I would recommend mounting the vac near the garage doors so the hose can stretch out into the driveway too. Mine is mounted at the back against the house wall (attached garage) and the hose is too short to reach into the driveway. I will add another section of hard pipe and an outlet between the 2 overhead doors once my drywall is finished.

I have the Craftsman wall mounted ($99 I think). Power is good, hangs on the wall nice and the accessories are ok. But...

Did some idiot that has never used a vacuum figure out where to attach the hose? This has to be the poorest engineering I've ever seen. You can't put the hose on the reel with it still attached to the vac. Huh? Yes...you have to take the hose off becasue it loops around the top of the vac, but attaches in the front. So, it wants to stick out about 12" from the vac before it will loop back to the reel. Who takes their hose off every time they finish using the vac?
If it had a swivel, or came out on the side, you could wrap the hose (21 ft., mind you) on you reel with no problem. But if you try it with it coming out the front (a) it sticks out probably 21"-24" from the wall, and (b) you have to loop it inside out and not coil it like you would a normal hose.
And why am I so picky about that? Because my trash can sits right under it and I have to duck to open it so I don't hit my head on the &$%*@ hose! My next wall mount won't be a Craftsman...

I have 8 of these vacuums in my shops, they last and last and I've found a replacement motor that sells for less than $40.00. These are the quietest vacuums that I know of. I have one at my house for use in the garage, and I'm toying building with building a central vacuum system. Here is one available Vaccum scroll down to item 6A.

I know this thread is old, but I have to chime in, mostly due to the JOY I feel now that I just got my Hoover GUV for 155 delivered. Great suction, great looking, nice long hose, handy tool organizer...awesome addition to my garage and totally blows away the lowes hang-up one I had before.

And I need to brag about the GarageVac I got for Christmas, comes with a 40' hose, can be flush mounted in a 2x4 wall, and is made in the USA.:bounce:

I bought whatever brand they sell at Lowes. (It was blue but I painted it red) It has worked great for me. I do general cleaning with it and I hook it up to the Blast cabinet when I use it. It has yet to skip a beat.

I have the Craftsman One. Overall pretty good except for the front-mount hookup. Can't leave the hose attached, but not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

Overall I like it.

How do you like it so far? Can you give us a review?

Cheers!

Jim

It's been great, the 8' hose stretches out to 40', so I can use the attachments and vacuum a car out in the driveway with the unit mounted in the garage, but the hose still stows easily along the hood of the vacuum. I've got the hanging model, which I can lift off the wall and move around, but because it's so skinny you can get the flush mount for just a little more and mount it inside a wall. I'm very happy with it so far.

Plus it's great to see that something is still being manufactured here in the U.S.
