What do you guys use for wall paint? My garage mudding and taping is almost done. I was going to go with a semi gloss finish. What are you guys doing. I work in the garage so I am worried about staining the wall and not being able to wipe it off.

I have a finished garage that was sprayed with cheepo flat builders house paint (dark tan). I am going to redo with bright white. I panted one of the rooms inside with an eggshell finish and really like the look of it. I don't know how it compares to semigloss but it cleans up well.

Ok, I am just thinking if I get a finger smudge on the wall I want to clean it off.

I used drywall primer, then semi-gloss white on walls & ceiling to get the most out of my lighting.

Oh I have learned not to buy cheap paint long ago. I will be doing a good coat of primer and a good paint over it.

Ummm, wall paint? :lol_hitti :lol_hitti :lol_hitti :lol_hitti :lol_hitti

Cause ceiling paint is usually not washable, and deck/floor paint is usually not needed for walls.

What was the question again?

Semi Gloss. But if you want a real durable Semi-Gloss use an Exterior Latex S-G.

+1. My garage was plagued with horrid looking dark yellow flat paint over an even more horrid drywall job that was mudded, taped, and then painted without a finishing layer over the tape. After I smothed out all the tape and imperfections I rolled on two coats of Kilz primer and two coats of exterior SG white. The paint guy at HD said the exterior will clean up easier and take a beating better than the indoor SG. So far...so good. YMMV.....

Wall paint= Like in what finish do you use for the paint on your walls. Gloss, Semi gloss, satin, egg shell.

I plan on white satin - whatever is cheapest at Kelly-Moore in a 5 gallon bucket. That way, when I'm out there at night...

my shop is an old 1950 block dairy barn. I have two coats of some white semi gloss interior paint that I bought from lowes in 5 gallon buckets. I'm planning on a third coat but definitely going gloss on final coat for light reflection and overall cleaner look.

Semi-gloss white Valspar Premium Latex for the upper walls and ceiling. Valspar premium gloss enamel for the lower walls. I used Valspar primer on the drywall before the finish coats went down.

I agree with most of the above. White, to make best use of lighting. Semi gloss so finger prints wipe off. A good primer followed by a good kitchen and bathroom latex will work very well. Kitchen and bathroom will stand up to moisture and repeated cleaning. Exterior paint is formulated to withstand direct UV exposure and it will not really perform any better indoors. The toughest paint you can get is melamine.

Here's an interior shot of my space.

I'm just funnin' wit ya.

Satin or eggshell finish usually. Trim usually done in a gloss or maybe a semi-gloss.

For walls, check for a 'washable/wipeable' paint. That will usually indicate that the resin/binder is durable enough to stand up to a wipe-down (after the paint film fully cures, which is not just when the paint is 'dry').

Painting an entire wall with a gloss paint can have some drawbacks such as :

- the high-gloss finish will show every ripple, bump, dip, wave, roughness, seam, and any other surface imperfection.

- a high-gloss finish can cause glare issues from lighting .

Your call and your wall.

Me, as I mentioned, typically go for walls in a satin or eggshell type finish. But a 'washable/wipeable' paint.

I ended up using Conco interior paint. I used two coats of primer and one top coat of semi gloss. Looks great and wipes off easy.

I would highly suggest interior paint, because from what I've read, exterior paint is formulated to chalk over time to prevent build-up of paint. As the paint weathers and rain washes it, some small amount of paint comes off. I think it unlikely you would have that washing effect inside your workarea.

Aside from that, I put an enamel in my shop to make it easy to clean; oil based on the steel members and latex on the walls and ceiling. For the ceiling I used gloss enamel white over primer. The OSB on the ceiling clearly shows through but I'm OK with that and it increases the brightness in the shop.
