Wall storage (pegboard) alternatives?

The time has come to consider wall storage in my tool shed.

What is the "go to" thing to hang tools from these days? Still pegboard or is there something a little more attractive?

2x4s screwed horizontally into studs and then any of a million styles of screw-in hooks etc.

Go cheap. French cleats are easy. Even a few larger items with a fair amount of weight in my garage are on cleats.

Thanks for the replies!

I am going to use it over the work bench for wrenches and screwdrivers and such. I have pegboard in the garage, but am looking for something a little less pedestrian than the masonite stuff.

The metal pegboard looks nice and that wall control might be a budget friendly option

I did Slatwall and have a love/hate relationship with it.

I like the look and how well it works, but I hate the cost of buying the hooks and the lack of options.

That being said, I scored a bunch of it from a Restore store for $8 and spent about $4 on enough chrome hooks to last me a lifetime. Anything that wasn't a hook was bought via Menards and I have determined that some items intended for pegboard will also work.
