wall track systems?

Seems like the big 3 are craftsman, Rubbermaid and gladiator? Any others? Which has the best bang for the buck? I'd be using a wide range of shelves/baskets and hooks for tools, yard gear, ect.

I have the Rubbermaid in my garage and like it. I jus. Bought my dad a starter Gladiator because they have a nice golf caddy I liked. I haven't mounted it yet for him but "looks" nice.

I have both Rubbermaid and Husky systems for hanging yard tools. I don't have any shelves or baskets; everything is pretty much close to the wall. The heaviest thing I'm hanging on the Rubbermaid system is a gas string trimmer. Both system work very well for what I'm using them for.

I use the Kobalt track system and it is great! Cheap and easy ...kinda like some of my old girlfriends!

They can be customized to any length, height and spacing. They can be painted any color to match your existing color scheme. They will take any type of "hook" you can dream up. They will support massive amounts of weight and are easy to build & install. You can even hang cabinets or shelves from them.

Best of all, they are cheaper than any system on the market.

I think French cleat probably offers the most versatility, I would like to try this some day!

For metal track I ended up choosing Elfa from the Container store. It’s a little more expensive but it’s also much better quality than Rubbermaid so I actually think it offers better value.

I believe the basic track is around $20 for 80” or so and they have sales a few times a year at 30% off so that’s only $14 which is a pretty good deal.

You can hang quite a few things from this track. Elfa offers some nice accessories and their dual track standards are also one of the better values out there, they are built really strong.

Even though they will say you should not use non-Elfa accessories you can of course. John Sterling makes some nice hooks for very reasonable cost that fit into the dual track standards.

Sterling also has some super heavy duty shelf brackets that fit the dual track standards, these are pretty cool. A 20” shelf bracket that holds something like 500 lbs… nice!

My husband had some Gladiator channels (not panels) in our last garage that worked well - just not enough of it & it was pretty inefficient space-wise with everything hung at the same height in a straight line. He wanted a four-car garage full of slat wall and then decided there may be other things in life he'd like to have money left-over for! After much research, we decided a french cleat system would be the strongest & most versatile and relatively cost efficient. Our old Gladiator hangers were screwed onto cleats for our new slat wall - more than twice as much stuff in the same space is great. And to somewhat mimic the aesthetic of the slat wall he wanted, we put cleats ceiling to floor & stained them with semi-transparent deck stain - looks pretty good. Only downside - taking the time to make (& stain) all the custom cleats people have inspired us to do.

I agree, i'm in the process of putting slat wall up 360 degrees around the garage. Although the french cleat is quite a nifty idea and seems quite versatile and best of all cheap.

Go for what you can find the most accessories near you. I have Gladiator and slatwall. The slatwall fixtures are slim at HD and Lowes, but you can find a lot at a local fixture recycler place. I have several hooks that I use to hang sawhorses, extension cords, and other random items. The Gladiator stuff is becoming rare at certain Lowes, but can be found at all the Sears near me. They're strong and durable and look nice for a price. Looking at all of them, I think they're pretty similar except for the mounting system. I'm sure they probably hold the same amount regardless of brand. I wish the fixtures were interchangeable between the brands, or at least be able to use them with slatwall.

I just put up Gladiator gear wall above my work bench and was trying to determine what accessories I'd need for the space when I discovered that my Akro bins snap right into the track and they're stable. So at least for mountable bins, I'm covered. :thumb up:

Might work on other systems, too...

I got slat wall for cheap from a retail place that was closing. Like the other guys mentioned above it is a good solution. The metal inserts are important for heavier items, as woodrail mentioned. I had a couple of spots where the slat was bowing out and had to make some adjustments, would have been fine if I had the metal inserts.

I have the Kobalt rails, mainly because I was given a bunch of Lowes gift cards 2 Christmases ago. I like them, and have some pretty heavy stuff hung on them.

I have the Rubbermaid stuff because I got a deal on it. It's been pretty good and I've found hooks for all the things I've wanted to hang.
