Walmart clearance is all ymmv. I wandered the aisle and it was all marked (basically) regular price with a clearance tag...oh walmart!:bounce:

I picked up some chinese needlenose/linesman pliers for 2.50 very similar to the ones I've gotten at sears under their junk tool label (tool choice). I typically have good luck with the consumer stuff like these. Modern chinese pair of needlenose lasts me a long time, haven't busted nary a one. As long as the jaws are aligned they're good to go. Also got a sheffield precision pliers set with a case for 4 bucks (I think?); okay quality on those, good for electronics.

They have a bunch of tools in the clearance aisle just...not marked down.

You are correct, I am shocked at the lack of discount for clearance items. Target gets up to 90% off and Walmart most of the time is just 1% off.

Walmart was really good for clearance stuff once upon a time, like ten years ago.
I don't know if they resell in bulk now or what.
Sometimes they will put stuff on rolling racks out front.

I find my local grocery store has better clearance deals than Walmart now.

This is what happened when the kids took over the company, 10 yrs ago it was a great place to shop with great prices. Now it's a dirty store with over price **** and employes who just plain don't care.

Last year @Lowes I bought a similar set of Stanley screw drivers that included a small pack of mini screw drivers for $5. Super value but they were awful and I'm gathering them, the free HF cheapies and boxing them for donation or use as lenders or to be abused/used aggressively. Walmart does have decent everyday prices for motor oil when I dare to enter the place.

Walmart used to incrementally drop their clearance prices until the stuff was gone. I have at least a few thousand dollars worth of freshwater fishing gear that I got for 5-10 cents on the dollar, and sometimes even less. That changed right around when the economy collapsed. Now, you're lucky if it's 10% off, and it's never anything of interest. I rarely step into one anymore.

I think every walmart is different and you have to be there when they really mark down a couple of years ago the local one had bike Helmont marked down to $10 for a couple weeks which was about 60% off I happen to walk in and see them putting like 20 of them in a cart so I asked if they were moving them the women told me they were clear ending them out and was moving them to the front of the store and when it hit 1pm they would be in the system at .25 needless to say they did not make front of store I bought all 20 and gave all kids in family bike helmets for the birthdays that year not to mention selling a few at garage sales for $5 ea and people kept asking how I could sell the helmets brand new so cheap. My answer was got a great deal and just passing it along

I make it a point when I go in Walmart to look at the clearance items, mostly so I can laugh at what they call "clearance prices". I have seen things marked down less than 5%. They also like to mix full priced items in with the clearance items to try to pass them off to the slow and foolish as clearance items. I do my best to stay out of Walmart if at all possible.

I know what you're saying. Once in a while I find a gem in their clearance isle. It used to be great no so now

They had the Valvoline Nextgen motor oil "clearanced" for $4. Original price was $4.58. Wow! I remember buying all of it that Advance Auto had several months back for about $2 a quart. That was a clearance sale.

They did have some type of Stanley Fat Max ratcheting adjustable wrench marked down from $20 to $10. Not sure why someone would want one, but that is the only real clearance item I could find.

I find the most common clearance items at Walmart that are truly great deals seem to be miscellaneous hardware. I buy it for future use. Unfortunately I often forget about it when the time comes around to use it.

The "clearance" isle is a joke but, every now and then I'll find an endcap with deals on it. Last summer they had the big WD-40's in a 2 pack with a mini for like $3. snagged a few of them.

I have got some Skil router bits from the clearance aisle for decent prices. The common sizes to go in my trim router don't have to be high quality.

After a truck robbery, I bought the 'big set' b&d cordless drill & bits with some cheapo hand tools from the clearance aisle for a decent discount.

Nice thing about the 24 hrs wal marts is there's a lot less riff-raff at 3 AM. I don't think I've been in one during normal hours in years.

I've got a former roommate whom is a Walmart worker whom told me that each department is required to run their own clearance area. They aren't given direction on how to run it, so some departments discount things quickly to clear space, but other areas like tools are pretty fixed in space so they don't have to deal with seasonal items. Therefore they take the clearance items and toss them in a corner to rot. They don't discount them much and don't care when or if they sell. Other stores might push them out as quickly as possible. It's all by store and department manager.

My store unfortunately is one of those 'discount 1% and let it rot' types. I see plier sets that have been on clearance now for over a year, still none have sold.

Kmart here is pretty good with sale and clearance on hardware. I get good deals there. Like a big pack of long deck screws for a buck, peg hooks, spring hooks, assorted **** for under a buck. Walmart...not so much.:bounce:

The problem with walmart is that they don't have sales. No "sale" means you can usually find it somewhere cheaper.

Orange Walmart just setup one aisle near the garden section with clearance stuff, most of it looked like half price, but zero of it was appealing to me. Walmart is YMMV, but about the only place I see items cheaper is at Home Depot on sale, plastic containers, storage boxes are almost always cheaper at HD, but so are some cleaning supplies.
