That's odd that Sam's Club would be more since it's part of Wal-Mart
Ironic, isn't is? In theory it should be cheaper. I guess they look at the data and see enough people will pay what they charge. Sam's is trying to cater to small businesses. They give business owners better shopping hours and other benefits. They make it easy for them to come in early and buy 10 gallons of oil or whatever and get in and out fast.
I guess that is worth something. Sometimes the lines at Walmart are ridiculous.

Side note, has anyone seen the walmart commercial where they say they are pledging to purchase $250 Billion(with a B) worth of products by 2023 that support the creation of American jobs?

Middle of nowhere.
I buy my oil at O'Reillys. They will price match any one. Even my go to counter guy had the Walmart app on his phone. Val Max Life, O'Reilly was $30 for 5 qts., Wally was $17.64. No brainer there.

Sam's Club buys deals, so if they have an item that is also offered at Wal-Mart, it may be priced higher or lower than WM.

Wal-Mart has the consistent pricing, because they are buying consistent quantities, for far more locations, at a negotiated price.

It sounds great until you consider that Walmart will likely sell over $3,500 billion ($3.5 trillion) worth of product in that time. This would constitute less than 10% of their total sales. Are they including Made in USA products they already sell?

I work part time at a Napa store, and I can say that even though our oil prices are higher than Walmart, the profit margin on it is extremely small. We're not raking in the money selling oil. Walmart simply has the ability to buy huge amounts in bulk for much cheaper than the auto parts stores can.

I understand why a lot of people feel that way about Wal-Mart. I try to use small locally owned businesses when I can. But my resources are limited like everyone else on here.

If you don't like Walmart then you should hate Amazon! Typical predatory business practices. They put their so called partners out of business. Well out lined on CNBC and confirmed again and again by several other investigative reporters. They Treat their ware house workers like toilet paper. They have passed Wal-Mart as the largest retailer in the World.

I know they are cheaper and convenient. But think about what your money is going to.
Wal-Mart is starting to feel the pressure and paying people a bit better and providing some more with benefits. They have a ways to go but compared to Amazon...not even close. When on line I go to Ebay, some others and avoid Amazon. Somethings ;) are not always about the money.

Walmart paying more than amazon has absolutely nothing to do with amazon lol.

Amazon isn't even close to passing up Walmart as the world's largest retailer. Amazon had $107 billion in 2015 revenue while Walmart has $485 billion in 2015 revenue.

Wally world is 20 minutes away. I'd rather go to Napa 2 miles away. May pay a couple bucks more, but my time, gas, wear and tear on the car, plus not having to deal with douche nozzles at Wally World -- all makes up for it.

I have two Napa stores within 10 minutes of my house.
They have been my sole source for automotive consumables, but lately it's getting mighty difficult...for instance, last week I needed a Gates 7420 fan belt. It was $23.95 at the Napa stores. The same belt is $9.95 on Amazon, with free next-day shipping.

:headscrat

That's a HUGE difference, too much to ignore. And quite frankly the Napa stores make no effort to match (or come close to) Internet pricing.

I will still try to give them my business, but frankly Amazon is now my first choice.

PS Closest Wal-Mart to me is 45 miles away, so it's not in the picture.

Amazon is also reinvesting their earnings to improve their company. Walmart is playing catch up. Walmart just brought jet.com to compete with amazon. But I doubt it

Walmart is awesome as a company though. They figured out how to pay the absolute minimum taxes they can and shield their profits. I think it's an awesome company just like amazon

that was my thought too when I first bought oil at Walmart. I would rather go to Oreilly, but when the difference is $7-10 per oil change, that's significant enough that it requires consideration.

All you guys bitching about the people at Walmart need to change your shopping schedules. Wife and I go after work, 12am, on Friday nite/Saturday morning. We typically have the place to ourselves other than maybe 1/2 a dozen people and a few stockers. There's one checkout person usually, and we know them by name.

China, China, China, guess what, everything that's made for Walmart in China is made for everybody else in China too, get over it. We asked for it, we got it.

One of the gals at work claims that Walmart is the devil and is causing all this country's problems, stealing jobs from America, yada yada yada. No sweetheart, it's people like you that use every union program and government employment law and on the books to show up for work only 1 day a week. She's the poster child for everything that's wrong with unions.

Oreilly employees get everything just slightly above cost but most of the time i can get consumables at walmart cheaper. Wiper blades were a wash but most other chemicals was a no brainer

It may be a awesome stock investment but from reading these and other threads many people don't feel awesome shopping there. Like most big retailers they also figured out how to keep most of their employees under 30 hours a week so they don't have to provide health insurance and other benefits. Plenty of awesome there?

Last time I went to China Mart (months ago) I felt like I needed to shower after

+1 !! I cringe every time I go into WM. I totally hate that store so my visits there are few and far between.

I know NAPA is more expensive, but they are local guys and NAPA has been in my town for decades. And when I have a problem they will spend tons of time working with me to get a solution. What help can you expect from the WM staff?? So, I gladly pay more for my oil from NAPA and WM can kiss off.

If it weren't for the people at Walmart, I would shop there more often. I do get my oil and filters there, as well as my other auto fluids.

The secret to a happy shopping experience at Walmart is to go there before noon. The typical Walmart shopper doesn't get up very early.

My local store opens at 7AM so I will zip in there before work and grab what I need. I buy my oil, brake fluid, brake cleaner spray, carburetor spray, silicone spray, wiper blades, and power steering fluid there. I get my ATF at Sam's Club for $24 a case (generic Dextron III that works great).

Sadly, Walmart's supply of other 'real' automotive parts (bulbs, for example) keeps dwindling.

I buy oil and some other consumables at WM. The everyday prices on these things is just too good to pass up...although I do take advantage of some of the Mobil 1 and filter specials at Auto Zone or Advance sometimes.

I've never checked at the other stores to see if they take used oil, but WM does and it's easy so it's a win-win for me.

A bit off topic...but my Mother recently stopped driving and needs me to take her shopping. We'd go to Rite Aid, CVS, KMart to get all she needs on sale. I took her to WM yesterday. She had never been and was surprised to find the everyday prices on what she regularly buys was cheaper or equal to the "sale" prices at these other stores.

Yeah, I'd agree that WM has hurt some small businesses, and as a very small business myself I'd prefer to go to a small business. At least where I live, the small local auto parts stores are all but gone. I was very friendly with one, but they've switched into selling stereos, remote starters, wheels...and moved completely away from parts and supplies.

The good thing about WM for me is that I can pick up my oil, filter, etc while Im there buying cat food, razor blades, etc...

This is not the norm. I can tell you that the 3 or so non-super Walmarts in my area were nasty: people loitering the in parking lot, crazies wandering around inside the store, no employees to be found anywhere, empty shelves, nasty floor, areas with busted fluorescents...a wreck. (Anyone familiar with Rochester, I'm talking about the Irondequoit and Bay Town ones, and to some extent Henrietta now)

Then we were on a trip to Greenville SC and needed supplies. We saw a super WM (Woodruff Road IIRC) and we very reluctantly entered. It was night and day compared to the ones up here. I actually witnessed an WM employee LOOKING to assist people: "Do you need help finding anything? Want me to bring that up to the register for you? Will you need help getting that to your car?" Store was clean, well-lit, well-stocked, etc. I even commented to a friend who we were visiting there and he seemed shocked that WM would be anything but what we just experienced.

I don't know if it is a regional/cultural thing, or if the district manager up here was soft. The new one by me is actually a very nice place to visit. We'll have to see if this continues to be the case, or if it ends up going to the dogs in another year.

Even if it does, it is my go-to place for auto consumables.

Walmart stores can vary a lot based on the neighborhood. The three Walmart stores close to me are all new or totally remodeled in the past five years or so and they are all very clean. There is another Walmart store in a lower class area that is dirty and nasty. I visited a few weeks after a total remodel and the front entrance was covered with gum and other stuff customers had spit out. The interior wasn't much better.

This is absolutely true. The two Walmarts closest to me are actually pretty decent, although I don't go there often, and when I do I stock up so I don't have to return for a while. The frustrating part is trying to check out - I don't blame the checkers with the dead-behind the eyes look on their faces after seeing some of the people they have to deal with. And remember, this is at one of the 'better' Walmarts!

In the past I've had the misfortune of stopping in at a couple of other Walmarts in more financially/culturally challenged locations (not sure how to say this "correctly") and one would think you were shopping in a third world country. I'm guessing it's even worse if it's closer to the 'first of the month'.

On another note, the local WalMarts have started trying to check receipts at the door ala Costco. I generally just walk past and say "no thanks" when they ask to see my receipt. The deer in headlights look from some of them as I blow past is priceless. I already paid for the stuff so it's mine and none of their damn business at that point - this isn't Costco where I agreed to let them check my receipt as part of a membership agreement.

This.

If you don't care for the people who frequent your Walmart, well, they're your neighbors.

I usually go to Newark, Macedon and sometimes Sneeky Falls. Newark and Macedon are generally clean and well stocked. My usual purchases are oil and consumables. I rarely get to Irondequoit or Webster.

I never asked for Chinese made products. I still buy Made in the USA when I can. Often times I have no choice to purchase a Made in the USA item unless I want to order online. There is some stuff I have searched far and wide for and it seems that nobody makes the item in the USA anymore. I did buy a laundry basket at Walmart two weeks ago and it was actually Made in the USA.

I love Walmart. Go there almost every day. Shell Rotella is always cheaper there than anywhere else. And I buy their car and truck batteries too. But if Walmart has something I want and it says Made in China, I'll go out of my way to find a replacement made in the U.S.

I believe every dollar spent for Chinese **** will come back to us as a bullet aimed at an American boy. I'm not worried for myself--I did my stint as a Army Sgt. in 1970-71, but my nephews are in their late teens and just about ripe for the Oligarchs who run our wars to get their dirty hands on.

I bought some generic antifreeze there a few months ago. It was a couple bucks cheaper than the auto parts stores.

It was probably made in China so who knows what was in it. They put ethylene glycol in the toothpaste so I'm guessing there's toothpaste in the antifreeze.

It worked though.

I get all consumables, including rum and beer from my local Brawlmart.

One time, I did a transmission job with Stanley tools.

All other auto parts are ordered on Amazon.

The only exception is Publix rotisserie chickens and sandwiches. Those are amazing!

I buy my oil there and this is the second year I have bought it from Walmart and used a rebate offer to get $12 off. My purchase this year will cost me less than $13 for a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 5W30.

If interested search for "mobil 1 rebate 2016". If you do want in on the rebate time is limited. The offer is for purchases between August 1, 2016, and October 31, 2016.

The rebate varies from $7 to $15 depending on what you buy.

The rebate site says you have to purchase from a partipating retailer, and Wal-mart isn't on the list. Do you think it has been changed since you got your rebate?

buy their house brand of penetrating lube, carb cleaner, and starting fluid. they are the cheapest around (barring some special sale somewhere). I will buy their supertec oil as well for the beaters/small engines.

my gripe is they never stock more then 2 or 3 cans on the shelf at any give time. you can never go in and find a full 6 pack case on the shelf, so I have to buy whatever they have everytime I am there. this goes for all 4 walmarts in my area. their stocking of the automotive section socks rocks...

I get my Motorcraft oil filters there for less then $4 a piece there. I use to buy my Motorcraft oil there as well as Wally World was about $5 cheaper for a 5 qt jug then anywhere eles. I've since switch to citgo. For most auto consumables, get those at Fleet Farm. If I watch for sales and or rebates, their prices are great for oils, coolant, lubes, what have you. I stock up when the sales are on as I like having stuff on hand.

sbduncan

The mobil1 page that had the details for the rebate showed "Some participating retailers include:". Walmart was not listed but I did this same rebate offer last year with a purchase from Walmart and had success. I have also purchased more oil this year and I recently checked my rebate status and it says the check had been mailed October 26, 2016.

I know of no reason it would not work for you too.

I've found that mom and pop shops, local/chain auto parts stores and big box stores all carry the same **** from China, so at the end of the day I just buy it where I can get it for the lowest price.

I've seen the same thing at a local WM, but not consistently. :headscrat: What really annoys me is when something I bought sets off their door alarm because the cashier didn't deactivate it, or whatever. I've found that if I'm already out the door onto the sidewalk, they won't come out to check my bag; apparently, they're not allowed to? So it's fun to wave them out to me, while they're telling me to come back in. I wave goodbye, and they give up.

Are you smiling? Because you are on video.
I know what you mean because that has happened to me in the past and i have seen it happen to many others while I am waiting in line to check out. Annoying!

To those who say the Chinese products are the consumers fault I will have to say it is more the Voters fault. We don't have a true supply and demand ecomony which they teach out about in high school economics.
Our politicians in Washington set this up to happen under the guidance of the large multi-nationals. Most boycotts would not work because your options become too limited due to your bank account dwindling or there just are not viable choices. What are you going to do? Not buy a car because there are some Chinese parts in it? Or not replace a broken tool because every store around has stuff made in china..... or some other 3rd world country.

I don't want to sound too negative but every eligible voter is responsible. Do you know how your senator has been voting? Democracy takes work. If you don't want to do some work then you get what you get.

Right now China is our largest creditor. If their ecomony crashes it will greatly effect us. Again, thank your Senator and congress person for supporting deals like NAFTA, CAFTA and a bunch of other lousy trade deals. They could have said NO to that nice lobbyist who plays golf with them and helps them get reelected.

I only buy automotive fluids at Wally World, but also scope out Costco for when they put Mobile 1 on sale for $26 for 6 qts (like this week).
