To each their own, but seems like less hassle to just open it up and turn the button slide thing around.

Like you suspected, it was just installed backwards:

I guess it would have costed an extra .01c to mechanically key this to prevent incorrect installation 🙄.

Anyway, torx screws and decent guts for a $45 installation driver:

I did a lifetime warranty on a plier from Popular Mechanics bought at WalMart. Pop Mechanics magazine directed me to the mfg of the tools, Test-Rite, who gladly did a warranty exchange in 2006. The only catch? The replacement tool said AC Delco.
Nice. I always heard the tools were made by Stanley but I guess manufacturers could have switched at some point too.
