Lawson is another company that will do this. You can even buy fasteners at NAPA and they'll throw in the bins.

So what's a "large" quantity consist of at these places that give you the bins for free?
I mean do you have to spend at least ~$500-1000 to get them or what?

I would think since the metal bins start at a couple hundred dollars and go up depending on size and configuration that you would have to make a decent investment in order for them to throw the bins in for free.

The typical assortment which will generally fill the 72 hole bins is around $500 retail and they'll often throw in the bin. Note that "fill" is relative and the assortment gets pretty light on the bigger stuff like 3/4"

I searched far and wide to find a 72 hole bin "cheap." I tried working 40% discounts on MSC's site, looked at ebay, etc etc. I finally found that if paying retail for the bin only Fastenal is the cheapest - they charged me about $170. The next week a lady GAVE me two more 72 hole Durhams. My timing was slightly off!

I'll second this.

Make friends with your local scrap metal yard. I know the ones in NJ always have a pile of metal cabinets, and will often re-sell them at a reasonable price.

Guys, I can help you with Durham, Akro, Quantum, etc. Contact me and I'll make sure you get taken care of. Quantum promises us we'll beat any competitor's price.

If you are a large commercial shop, sometimes the fastener companies will "give" you cabinets. However, one of my best clients was "given" cabinets that surprisingly showed up on his invoice kind of hidden amongst fastener pricing.

If you own a shop, most fastner companies will supply you with bins as long as your purchasing stock from them. I can safely say I have never changed a customer for bins after the relationship has terminated.

There is allot of Red tape here. It all depends on the company. If your not running a shop I would purchase a hardware assortment, they usually come stocked with the hardware and the bin is provided also. Cost is usually around $300 depending on the hardware included. An empty 72 hole bin goes for around $139.00

I assume those are just stackable plastic bins? Hard to tell from the small pic, but i have some just like that. Purchased from

http://www.randmh.com/

Quite cheap. Only issue is they do have a minimum purchase depending on the type of bin. You really dont have to spend much though. Bins range from about $1.50 for the smaller sizes that would suit nuts and bolts fine all the way up to $25 for something you could literally sit inside and everything in between. Friendly people too.
