I would love to have all USA tools in my box,but time and cost are against me.I used to roam the flea markets and yard sales.No time for that lately.So most of my tools,other than wrenches,ratchets,sockets,etc,end up being foreign.Such as magnetic pick up tool,test light,spark tester,and so on.Just wish we could have the Harbor Freight polar opposite.ALL AMERICAN without the truck prices.Rant mode off.

Have you looked into Wright? Not sure how their pricing compares to trucks, exactly, but I believe it is less. I once saw a thread about some bits in a kit that they had outsourced, but they seem to be just about 100% USA, forge to finish.

You're describing what Craftsman USED to be. But there's still USA sourced stuff at Sears for a fair price. If you shop online, your options are pretty good. Klein comes to mind.

You can still find Craftsman USA stuff, pretty easy really,

Just remember when you walk through the tool section at sears and most other stores and you see something strange and think "who the f**k would buy that?" its probably not made in the US

Wright tools are the way to go. Also look for SK to start up again soon.

He said he had the basics covered "wrenches,ratchets,sockets,etc" so Wright wont help him at all. Nor is it very cheap [i priced it up]. May as well buy new truck brand stuff on ebay.

His question is regarding specific automotive equipment. Like it or not HF has things like a pretty large selection of specialty diagnostic tools for very little cash. I agree there really arent that many outlets for that kind of stuff, including sears.

OTC, not stinger brand is still mostly USA from what I have seen. Lisle is also still mostly USA. Fluke multimeters. Those brands should cover most speciality tools. With the exception of gearwrench style ratcheting wrenchs, You can still find almost everything eles USA. Some of it is real high end and you will pay for it, but thats all that is left. Vise-grips are made in China for pete's sake. When I buy tools, I alway try to go USA. Tool guy looks at me funny when I order real OTC tools at triple the price of the stinger set he has on the truck.

Yeah it *****, but there's nothing you can do about it. Pretty much anything with a circuit in it will be made overseas, even with truck brands. If you want 100% American you're gonna have to find old stock, which means flea markets/classified/auctions/ebay. Pretty much all you can do.

There is NO comparison between Wright tools and Equally priced Truck tools OUTSIDE of Looking at Full Retail and there are 100's of Online stores that sell Wright at < 60% of Full Retail.
